WFA Over 60's 1st Round
Blackburn Rovers 4 Blackpool FC 1
Sadly, Blackpool had to concede home advantage as there were no suitable pitches available in the town this weekend. Playing on a wider pitch and with larger (6ft x 5 metre) goals Blackburn showed their class and team management to their benefit. Rovers took an early lead with a bottom corner shot from Ray Richards. Nick Carter was able to equalize half way through the first session and Blackpool looked to push on. The Senior Seasiders were then undone just before half time with another well placed low drill from Dave Wilde. Half-time 2-1. Blackburn changed their set up and rotated their squad well and were rewarded by a long range dipping goal from Dave Jones. Dave Wilde scored his second and Blackburn's fourth as Pool pushed forward to try and save something from the match. A well struck effort found the top bin. A well deserved win for Rovers and we wish them well for the coming rounds.

That home advantage clearly favoured them, Banksy - commiserations, mate.

That home advantage clearly favoured them, Banksy - commiserations, mate. Too good for us Gazza. Better team won, no complaints. All good fun.

Greater Manchester WF League - Over 65s April
Blackpool 0 Kingsmaid 1 (Battered - goal from their "guest" player, International centre forward from ............Redcar) (I also saved a penalty) Blackpool 0 Fleetwood 1 (comedy goal. Our midfielder fell over the ball on the edge of our area. It ran straight to their centre forward who scuffed his shot in off the post sending me the wrong way) Blackpool 2 Purple Panthers 0 (2 good strikes from the same midfielder against a poor team. They had a pen disallowed) Blackpool 0 Salcom (Salford) 0 (could have played for a whole week and neither side would have scored)
Fleetwood 6pts Kingsmaid 12pts Salcomm 7pts Blackpool 4pts Panthers 0pts
Another mixed day of fortunes. Lacking a goal scorer today. Could have won two of the games at the end. We go again in May.
Table now reads-
Kingsmaid "Northern All Stars" 19pts Fleetwod Flyers 17pts Salcom Salford 11pts Blackpool FC Senior Seasiders 7pts Purple Panthers (Chorley) 2pts
Kingsmaid have sadly made a mockery of the set up by having a goalie from Tranmere, a Carlisle midfielder and 2 guests from Redcar Strollers. Obviously not enough local talent in Manchester ------------- but I'm not bitter. They should have beaten us 5-0. They did that to everyone else !!!!

Is that Kingsmaid Man City's walking football team, Lennie? If so, I'm not surprised they've taken the piss with their player recruitment if they are associated with that horrible, plastic club.
City were at pains to be seen showing solidarity with Ukraine, yet they are buying glory with money from a nation with a 'questionable' record on human rights - welcome to Irony 101, Ladies & Gentlemen.
You may have had mixed fortunes, Banksy, but at least your integrity remains intact. I'd sooner be associated with Blackpool and finish bottom of the table than win and be linked with that shower of camel dung.

Kingsmaid were the original Man City team (City told them to do one when they wanted to be named Man City Kingsmaid and they wouldn't let them use the professional club name to advertise a local cleaning firm as an unauthorised sponsor).
There is now a Manchester Senior Citizens team and a breakaway Salcom (Salford Community Trust) team in our league. Both great bunches of guys and a joy to play against.
I love being on my high-horse when I know I am right !

Off to Leeds today to play for the "Greater Manchester WF League Over 65's" representative team vs Leeds District WF League side. Blackpool have 2 players in each of the 60's and the 65's squads. Not bad for a Division 2 outfit.
Friendly warm up before the National Inter League Competition at the end of May at Leek Town. Report later.

Greater Manchester League Rep Teams
Warm up games vs Leeds
Over 60's lost 3-4 (goals from Wai Hon Tsang and Nick Carter (The Beast of Blackpool) 2, both Senior Seasiders players). Hard fought very even game.
Over 65's won 7-1 (second goal to take half time lead from Tom Jaques - Senior Seasider. Steve Hyde in nets). Commanding performance from the whole team. Bit annoyed with the goal which gave them an early lead. Winger was left in space whilst we were still organising the defence. I was able to get down and parry his shot but only into the path of their lurking centre forward on the edge of the area. No one marking him as he toe poked it past me. Probably a bit slow getting up and at him because I wasn't sure where it had gone !! Pleased with a good "save for the cameras" in the last 2 minutes to rub salt into their wounds. Top corner and held onto it.
NAtional Inter League Competition on Sat 28th May at Leek Town to come.

Greater Manchester League Over 60's Spring Series (May)
Today BFC Senior Seasiders Over 60's continue in their League 2 Campaign - Known as "the Group of Death" and it lived up to it's name yet again.
Blackpool 0 Bolton 0 They really deserved to win this one but I had my best game of the morning. Blackpool 0 Fleetwood 2 Very well beaten, Goals both bottom corners. One not marked from a corner, other a 1 on 1 Blackpool 2 Corinthians 0 Two goals from the Beast of Blackpool - always in control Blackpool 1 Preston 2 Defence went AWOL more than once. Both goals 1 vs 1 bottom corner plants. One back for us from The Beast
Poor day but we lost to two better teams than us (see league table below).
Fleetwood 23pts (GD +6) Preston 20pts (GD +3) Blackpool 17pts (GD+1) Bolton 11pts (GD -2) Corinthians 9pts (GD -8)
Four games to go in June. We look safe from relegation but promotion looks well beyond us. Three or four new players available from September will help our lack of squad depth.

A tough day at the office, Banksy, but your class isn't just limited to being between the sticks. Your honesty and refusal to make excuses is equally as classy, mate.
Hopefully you can finish strongly and then strengthen for next season.

Productive weekend for the Senior Seasiders.
WFA Over 50's National Trophy 2nd Round
Blackpool FC Senior Seasiders 2 Club Kingsmaid (Manchester) 0
The "Youth" squad continued their unbeaten 2022 season run with a clinical demolition of much fancied Kingsmaid opposition. Two goals in the final five minutes (one from the veteran warhorse "Beast of Blackpool") put last year's national finalists out of the current competition. This team goes from strength to strength to follow in the footsteps of our previous successful Over 50's outfits. In the 1st round St Helen's were dispatched 6-1.
WFA Over 65's National Trophy 2nd Round.
Blackpool FC Senior Seasdiers (walkover) Garstang (withdrew)
The 65's squad had received a bye in the first round and were now presented with a walkover as Garstang were unable to field a side that matched the age range requirements due to illness, holidays and absences. Blackpool had similar issues but had a full squad (including three over 70s in the rota) available.
Hence, a friendly 7 vs 7 match was played instead, Garstang fielding three over 60's and Blackpool just one 64 year old who will join the team for September's League matches. Pool were quickly out the blocks and scored in the opening exchanges. Garstang came back slowly and strongly but 4 or 5 good chances were dealt with comfortably by yours truly. A second settling goal was scored on the stroke of half-time to take a 2-0 lead into the interval. A very even second half was endured but it was the Seasiders who extended their lead, against the run of play it must be said, midway through. Garstang again came back strongly and they pulled one back via one of their 60's recruits latching onto a loose ball on the edge of the area.. In the final minute our stand in centre back decided to "stand in " the penalty area. The resulting penalty was dispatched efficiently in the bottom corner.
Final result- Garstang 2 Blackpool 3. Cue- pub visit complete with bacon butties. Thank you Garstang Gentlemen.
