I read a post elsewhere that said that we're clearly missing the likes of Macca and Akil, and I agree - someone up there must be a f***ing Deadpool FC fan with the amount of bad luck we've had, and you can double that and add thirty for the bad luck Macca's had.
DC is going to earn his money between now and Tuesday, because we're in for another pasting if he doesn't.

Amidst all the negativity, my brother (passionate Rovers' fan) sent me this message:
"forgot to mention that County's keeper Ben Hinchliffe was highly commended by a number of our fans today for turning to applaud the Kop behind his goal before he left the field! It was top class by him which I saw for myself! 👏"

Forgot about your brother's Tranmere affiliation, Bradders. Bet he was a happy man yesterday!
Fair play to Ben for that reaction, when he must have felt gutted. Thanks to him alone that a cricket score was prevented...

Reasons to be (relatively) cheerful, Part 2...
After the final whistle yesterday, I hit the M53 out of Birkenhead feeling, inevitably, pretty fed up about what I had watched. But I then passed, three junctions along, the turning near Ellesmere Port I had had to take a few months over 10 years ago to watch County play Vauxhall Motors in, what was for our part-time, regional sixth-tier club, a scheduled league fixture... which, let it not be forgotten, we lost by the odd goal in three before 404 paying spectators.
Without doubt, far from the performance and result we would have wanted/expected at Prenton Park - but we have come a long way from Rivacre Park!

Thanks, Eppers. We've all enjoyed some highs and suffered some lows as County fans - but, for me, that defeat in 2013 was right there among the worst moments. We'd started life in the Conference North (as was) very badly - with just one point on the board, when Ian Bogie went at the end of August - and suffering further relegation (which might very well have killed the club) was a real fear. Better days were slowly to return under Lordy, and then Jim, of course - and our performance on a September evening at VM was far from the worst I've seen - but losing that night felt symbolic of just how far we'd fallen.

Yep, I still remember Len's iconic post following a defeat at North Ferriby: at least we weren't playing all of Ferriby.
Very dark times and regular gallows humour on CH compared to where we are now.

I was browsing Sam Byrne's Twitter feed and saw a comment from DC that he was very unhappy with the Centre of Defence, which seems to make sense given the set pieces leading to goals.
So my question is: how bad were Byrne and Bennett? Byrne, as an experienced pro should (forgive the pun) know the score when it comes to defending set pieces, and with a young-ish lad next to him (albeit one with a bit of a pedigree), he should have taken charge, right? Especially visiting his old club?
As for Bennett, I can maybe cut him a bit of slack given his youth, but it's striking that Rico Richards came straight into the squad but Bennett has hardly figured so far which suggests that DC is not impressed with him so far.
And, yes, we missed Horsfall, but thank heavens he has not been injured so far, where would we be without him? "Fun Fact" - we are currently missing 5, yes 5, defenders - MSH, Rydel, Knoyle, Pye and Wright.
Another DC comment seemed to suggest that Ethan Pye may be back soon - can't come soon enough.

Not for the want of effort on Bennett's part - and allowing, too, for possible first-match nerves affecting a 20-year-old - but he looked pretty badly out of his depth yesterday. He rather needlessly conceded the free-kicks that led to the first two goals as well.
Byrne - who I personally rate, and generally does a good job partnering Horsfall - was not a lot better, though. Perhaps that suggests him to be a decent lieutenant - rather than the leader, in Horsfall's absence, we needed him to be yesterday.
Cass has also disappointed in his last two games, despite an excellent debut at Grimsby. Touray was not our worst defender, after he came on - but his confidence looks shot to pieces.
Big, and difficult, game on Tuesday. I really hope that Horsfall may be recovered from his illness in time for it.

Reading 'Byrne' and my mind was still back in the old days, I thought you meant Chris Byrne.
I mean, we were bad vs Tranmere, but criminally so? Maybe not that bad!

Speaking of Chris Byrne, don't forget Dessie who played just the once but has a firm place in County's history.

I thought it was the Manor Farm training ground in Timperley where the wrong 'uns turned up with guns looking for him? That article says they turned up at EP. I may be wrong, though.
