A brief break from League action this Tuesday sees us make the short jaunt up to M7, with an opportunity for our returning players to enjoy some game-time.
For anyone going/tuning in on the night, remember that kick-off is at 7:30pm.
Post it all here...

So what do we know about Salford then? Well, their record this season is P 12 W 5 D 1 L 6 F 19 A 19, not too bad, fairly mediocre, but yielding 19 goals suggests defensive frailties.
The Ws are Forest Green (a) 0-2, Tranmere (a) 3-4, Newport (h) 2-1 to break the 5 game losing run, Sutton (a) 0-2 and Crewe (h) 4-2. The D was Crawley (h) 1-1. The Ls are Grimsby (a) 2-0, then 5 Ls on the bounce - Accy Stanley (h) 0-2, Morecambe (a) 1-0, Walsall (h) 1-2, Notts County (h) 0-2 and Harrogate (a) 3-2. In Cup games they tended to win on Pens - EFL Cup round 1 Preston (a) 2-2, winning 2-4 on pens, then 2nd round - Leeds (h) 1-1, winning 9-8 on pens, then losing in the 4th round to Bur*ley (h) 0-4. I make that just 2 clean sheets for the season - hmmmmm
In the summer they brought in ex-Fleetwood GK Alex Cairns (he played 26 times for Salford on loan last term), ex-Colchester defensive MF Ossama Ashley (28 apps last term), ex-Everton (12apps) and Blackpool (65 apps - plus other loan clubs) LB Luke Garbutt all in June). In July they also added experienced ex-Wigan D Curtis Tilt (263 apps for Wigan, Blackpool and Wrecktum amongst others), ex-Aberdeen Winger Connor McLennan (11 goals in 150 apps), GK Joe Wright from Millwall on loan to Jan). In Sept they signed defensive duo Declan John (92 apps) on loan from Bolton until Jan and Ethan Ingram on season-long-loan from WBA. I make that 8 coming in mostly at the back.
Obviously 3 of their players from last season are now at County one way or another - Louis Barry (2 goals, 9 apps), Odin Bailey (16 apps) and Ibou Touray (8 goals in 237 apps). Also on the way out have been Jason Lowe (125 apps) to Port Vale, MF Shane McLoughlin to Newport and MF Callum Morton on season-long loan to Forest Green. So 8 in and 6 out equals quite a lot of turnover on the squad which may explain the shaky start to their season, especially that 5 match losing run.
Top scorer is Matt Smith on 7, followed by Callum Hendry on 3, then Conor McAleny and MF Ryan Watson on 2. A further 4 players have 1 goal apiece. So yes they can score goals, mostly by Smith but they also spread the goals around a bit.
All in all, not a team to fear, I suspect even with many of County's starters being rested, this is a winnable game but as ever - fingers crossed.......

Salford took the lead, but Paddy equalised and he's now completed his hat-trick to put us 3-1 up - what a player that guy is!

Nightmare to park at the ground. Awful flatpack stadium. The young ultras were happy and pretty vocal until we scored. The rest of their fans were stuck in the library. Poor goal conceded after 2 minutes. Really pleased with the win especially with so many academy players taking part. Massive hat trick from Mr Madden. Great to see Louie Barry mixing with the fans. Not sure how many of their players were fringe or first team, but all in all a super result.

Salford's team was a similar mix to ours - with eight changes from their weekend line-up, seven starters with numbers in the 30s, 40s and 50s, and mainly kids on the bench. Fair play to both sides (and especially given that no-one was relishing the tie much beforehand), it was a very entertaining match. I think - sorry, Ceefs! - that I nabbed the last parking space in that little stretch of Moor Lane that remains exempt from the residents' permit scheme.

Sure there was a Roller parked in that space
