One of those that if we don't win everyone will not be surprised. Win and we send a few shock waves through the draw for Round 3.

Good chance to test ourselves against one of the big sides left in - and I'm 'darn sarf' for a school reunion that weekend! Perfect draw.

Alright then, just who are Charlton Athletic (other than the club that spent so many years playing its home games on someone else's pitch etc).
Well they sit in 14th spot in L1, just 6 points off the playoffs (where last season's FA Cup victims Bolton sit in 5th).
Their record is P 19 W 5 D 9 L 5 F 30 A 27 - so fairly mediocre, yes they can score but that's just as well because they concede almost as many goals. Their H record is a bit more tasty though... P 9 W 4 D 4 L 1 F 20 A 12. The L in that lot was 0-2 against MK Dons on 25/10, and the Ds were Ipswich 4-4, Oxford 1-1, Forest Green 1-1 and Cambridge U 1-1. The Ws were Pompey 3-0, Exeter 4-2, Derby 1-0 and Plymouth Gargoyles 5-1. Fun fact: Charlton have not played a single L1 game at H in November - look it up.
So that all looks fairly miscellaneous, who scores their goals? Well that too is fairly miscellaneous. Jesurun Rak_Sakyi leads with just 5, then on 4 take your pick from Jack Payne and Miles Leaburn, then it's all sorts of 3s and 2s and 1s. A total of 16 players having scored.
So it's hard to pick much out of that. The manager, of course, is Ben Garner, formerly of Swindon who did pretty well under his stewardship in L2 last year. He's taken a few of his Robins with him. Garner recently received a two-match ban for using improper language and behaviour during Charlton-s 4-4 comeback (having been 4-2 down) v Ipswich.
His response is worth quoting here: "I've accepted responsibility for my actions from the point I was sent off, if you like. I still maintain that I should not have been booked and I should not have been sent off". So he accepts responsibility for having to walk down the tunnel before the game was over but nothing else. Hmmmm, that doesn't sound like taking any real responsibility at all to me but hey ho, I'm old fashioned I guess - Hands up, it's a fair cop guv is more my style. Or just don't do anything improper.
Anyway, I'm sure the County fans in attendance will give him a fair reception and not attempt to wind him up.
All in all, I think County are more than capable of turning this lot over, although the real test might be which side defends better on the day and maybe a replay et EP. Fingers crossed etc etc

It's about time one of my FACT's were actually true!! So with that in mind, I've thought long and hard about this one...
F A Cup Time
Or you can have this one
Feeling that there could be A cup upset in this game. Charlton underestimate the mighty County To their own demise! Final score is 1 - 2

So that's it then: a replay at EP as the game finishes 2-2. Somehow I felt that, even at 2-1 down County had it in them to get at least a draw. This team has a spine of steel (I think I said that last season as well). I've been watching a match thread on their forum and they didn't seem confident of winning, even at 2-1. They seem to be impressed with Ryan Rydel, although they couldn't decide if he is a LB or not (I think they got him mixed up with Hussey). Anyway, guess who thought we might get a replay - why me of course (see my post above) anyway that's enough self congratulation, on to the replay and, who knows, maybe another match on the box. PS here's the Charlton match thread I was watching, it makes interesting readnig. forum.charltonlife.com/discussion/95111/match-thread-charlton-athletic-vs-stockport-county-facr2-saturday-26th-november-2022-3pm-ko/p9

Ecstatic and hoarse from the singing. The County fans were immense! Credit to Harry B. on the drum who kept it going for the full 90 minutes. Great day and we played the get out of jail card at precisely the right time.
Congrats to the players, superb effort and they never gave up.

Nice to hear that Ash made his debut for the Spireites yesterday, coming on after 35 mins and as far as I can tell playing a blinder. The Spireites seem to have fallen in love with him pretty quick.
They also seem to have picked up on the rumours about Tshimanga heading EP-wards. Now that would be a very nice Chrimbo Prezzy, but at present it is just a rumour, and a football rumour at that, so I won't hold my breath.
