principled stance or easy decision when you can just go back to counting your swimming pools and doing a bit of punditry with your mates instead?

stability for three years, and then crazytown. did the chairman bung a few grand on him to be the first manager sacked?
are they going to offer it to that fella from wakefield who sky interviewed by mistake? they might as well have appointed him in the first place...

heard a bit on 606 and all the watford fans were saying it was the right thing. four games. irrelevant that they had a poor end to last season - they were running down towards the cup final, which obviously didn't do them much good with the opponents being man city.
they just all sounded entitled young idiots and all tried to justify their positivity about the appointment of a manager in his place that they have previously sacked. one of them was even bullied by chris sutton into agreeing that if the new man lost his first four games he should also be sacked. they didn't seem to realise they were embarrassing themselves on national radio, at least to those whose opinions aren't entirely generated by view-chasing fan channels.

Tottenham: Jose Mourinho appointed after Mauricio Pochettino sacked - www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50483023"Former Spurs and England striker Gary Lineker feels the club will not find a 'better replacement', adding on Twitter: 'He (Pochettino) helped the club to punch massively above their weight for years.'" Spot on, Gary. Spurs have never really been as big as Levy thinks they are, so this is a little strange. They've more often than not played half decent football down the years, but Jose does not bring the kind of football the fans have been used to and his negative approach has been found out in recent years. Have a look at Arsenal after getting rid of Wenger, with plenty of their fans actually wanting him out - that worked out well, didn't it! Good luck with that one, Tottingham.

The fact that the deal with Jose was already done previous to the sacking announcement stinks !
But that, unfortunately, is modern day premiership football for you.
Poch to United ! Watch your back Ole.

Might go to Everton. Decent players, he has shown he can work within a relatively tight budget.
Bit of a strange one from Spurs really. I think as someone else alluded to. Levy thinks they are a top club now despite Pochettino. Not realising how much this is his team playing for him in his style. The ‘not so’ Special One will be an interesting fit...
Of course Pochettino has always been on Real Madrid’s radar so watch your back zizou!

I think he has got the most out of the current squad that he will get. Not sure he will be that bothered by the sacking as he will get a good pay off and will easily find another club.

i think you might be right ceef. they didn't/couldn't get rid of the wantaways (rose, alderweireld, eriksson, vertonghen) and apart from one big signing, he wasn't allowed to spend having just taken them to a champions league final. i remember the old liverpool way, and the way red nose managed at united was to recruit from a position of strength - take your winning (nearly winning in poch's case) squad and improve it. of course, levy has had spurs working to a different model, with lower wages than the others and spending lower in relation to the other big clubs. there might be things to commend about it, but i agree with ceef, i think poch had them playing to the maximum of their potential, and that helped conceal the relative lack of investment in squad/wages.
saw the *breaking news* banner on bbc news at about 1am, and must admit i was a bit shocked. wonder if they're going to have st totteringham's day again soon...although them and arsenal are both racing for thursday night mediocrity...
will be interesting gazz to see if mourinho shakes off some of the dourness we've been accustomed to with him, or, more likely, spurs fans will have to get used to draws and single goal wins, getting ahead and then setting up base camp ten yards outside their own area. i've liked him as a pundit, but we can probably expect him to cease smiling for the 'mourinho' (the span of three years within which mourinho gets so sour, licking him would turn you inside out, and the board (or specifically daniel levy) gets fed up of them being everybody's most hated team).
