I remember this, Hedge, and the fact that a lot more hasn't been made of this is an absolute disgrace. The top flight game stinks, and is rotten to the core. I too wish the Belles all the very best of luck, and hope that City and all their emerging off-shoots around the world suffer a fall from grace that can only be measured in Biblical terms.
Those responsible for this travesty are absolute scumbags.

'For Whom The Bell(es) Tolls'.
As Gazza correctly points out, this is a travesty.
It simply beggars belief.

Outrageous in this day and age.
Surely this should go through the courts but would cost a lot of money.
I hope they can still retain their team and go all out for promotion back to where they rightfully belong. I don't know what the difference in standard is between the first and second division.
Any new club should start at the bottmanx earn the right to get to the top flight by their results.
THIS STINKS

It stinks, but not because of Citeh, it seems that apart from Mens Football, a lot of sports seemingly going the franchise way. Rugby League - Remember them inviting a new French Club to the top flight, then a Welsh Club? Rugby Union - To a lesser extent, but the champions have to meet certain criteria. Thinking about it, we already have minimum standards of stadia for the FL, the PL still desire a closed shop.... Actually, thinking about it, back in the early 1900's Spurs were invited to join the league (probably to the detriment to someone like Glossop North End, or Barrow or - I don't know), because as a southern league club, they won the FA Cup. It is just today it is more noticable, not that it makes it right. Professional Sport is no longer a Sport now, it has not been for a while, it is all about Business.

Let's not forget Spurs themselves were once a victim, at the hands of Arsenal no less. Taken from topspurs.com: 1919: Get Spurs relegated and Arsenal promoted from 6th position - In 1915, when Football ended because of World War One, Chelsea and Spurs had finished bottom of the first division and Arsenal were sixth in Division two. The League planned to expand the first division by two clubs and precedent dictated that the two bottom clubs would stay up and the top two in the second division would join them. Sir Henry had other ideas. To this day the details of exactly what occurred at the league's meeting in March 1919 remains a mystery, but by the end of the day, Arsenal had been voted into the first division and Spurs voted out. Arsenal have never been out of the top flight since.www.topspurs.com/thfc-arsepaste.htmAlso this on wikipedia goes into more detail: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Norris_(businessman)Norris's most infamous contribution to Arsenal's history was his role in the club's promotion from the Second Division to the First in 1919. Arsenal were elected to the top flight in spite of only finishing fifth the previous season (1914-15, as competition had been suspended for most of World War I). This promotion came at the expense of other clubs, most notably Arsenal's arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur. It has been alleged that Norris bribed or in some way unduly influenced the voting members of the Football League, in particular the league chairman and owner of Liverpool, John McKenna; at the League's AGM, McKenna made a speech recommending Arsenal's promotion ahead of Spurs thanks to the former's longer spell in the League (Arsenal joined in 1893, Spurs in 1908.
Although Preston North End & Wolves, who both finished ahead of Arsenal, had been members of the league longer than Arsenal, Wolves since its inception in 1888. Although no firm proof has ever been offered, Norris's other activities, including the scandal that led to his downfall, are often cited as circumstantial evidence. Some claim that Norris 'bribed' McKenna, although this is pure speculation. Probably more likely is that he lobbied McKenna, who fearful of Norris exposing the corruption in the league at the time (Utd and Liverpool were accused of fixing the last game of the season) yielded to Norris's request to promote Arsenal to Division 1 based on their longer spell in the league and their professional status.

I remember hearing an interview with the Belles captain when this was announced. She was clearly devastated and asked: How can I motivate my team when we know we are already relegated?
As has been said already, it stinks. It also stinks that the media haven't picked this up. Doncaster is my local team and the local news have had zip on it.
I hope C*ty get relgated with bells on.
This story is actually why I chose my tag line:
"If you look after the sport the money will follow you, if you look after the money you'll kill the sport.'' Former Scottish FA president John McBeth.

Excellent result, hopefully the first of many on their way back to where they belong, only made sweeter should Karma dictate that it will be at the expense of that shower of shite.

I think they'll do a Rangers, and walk it. The big difference, of course, is that they are in this position through no fault of thier own. In fact, quite the opposite - they have consisently been the leading light in women's football and do great work in increasing participation in the sport. I'm not sure what's worse, the league coming up with this disgraceful idea of C*ty accepting it.

Hopefully City have an awful horrendous season and finish rock bottom, however the money they're chucking around suggests they'll be at the top instead sadly!

They can spend all they money they bleeding want, but it won't be honest and proper Women's football they'll be producing, that will be taking place at the Keepmoat. That's what matters in my opinion.
Manchester City have completed the transition from a team with which many football fans could sympathise, to one they utterly despise. Anything they put in the trophy cabinet these days may as well have been bought on f**king ebay, and there should be no kudos whatsoever afforded to them, having more money than everyone else is not an achievement.
Vile filth, akin to Frank Gallagher winning the lottery, ultimate Shamelessness!
