The draw has been made for the FA Cup extra preliminary and preliminary rounds.
The extra preliminary round will take place on Saturday August 6.
The winners will receive £1,125 in prize money, and the losers £375.
Here is a new thread. I will follow one team from this extra-preliminary round until they are knocked out and then I will will stalk the victorious team until they are removed by defeat .................... and so on and so until we reach Wembley next May.
I have decided to start with.................
New Mills FC. They are the re-incarnation of my first ever League Team (Birch Vale and Thornsett FC who played in the Stockport and District Sunday School League and progressed to the lower divisions of the Lancashire and Cheshire League in my teenager years in the early 70s).
The tie is Away to OSSETT UNITED on August 6th. (The winners of this tie will earn the right to be home to Whitchurch Alport or Vauxhall Motors in the Preliminary Round)
Please feel free to add any relevant information or anecdotes about either team to add to the knowledge of our readers. Have fun.

First a bit of History:-
New Mills - Formed in 18886 "The Millers" had success in the local leagues as New Mills St Georges (playing opposite St Georges Church on Church Lane). The played in the Manchester League until the mid-70's when they went to the Cheshire Set. This transformed into the North West Counties League. Fortunes fluctuated until the club disbanded in 1983.
Birch Vale and Thornsett F.C. were looking for a new ground and became tenants at Church Lane. Eventually, they took over running of the club and became New Mills Football Club. New Mills won the North West Counties League Division Two title in the 2007–08 season under the leadership of former Stockport County player Tony Hancock, who had joined as manager in 2005.
2021–22 North West Counties League Division One South, 3rd of 20
Ossett United was created on the 1st June 2018 following the merger of Ossett Town AFC (est. 1936) and Ossett Albion AFC (est. 1944). Both Ossett Town and Ossett Albion had managed to gain Northern Premier League status and maintain that level of football for a remarkable period of time, with Ossett Albion being the biggest club in Ossett.
2021–22 Northern Premier League Division One East, 9th of 19. Nicknamed "The Sheepicorns" !!!!!!

Have fun. I'm kind of disappointed you didn't choose the splendidly named Bugbrooke St Michaels FC. Nicknamed The Badgers, the name conjures up a variety of bucolic images. I've been contemplating something similar for the lower reaches of the Scottish pyramid, hope I'm not stealing your thunder.

All in the name of sport guys (and to revitalise County Heaven as we appear to be a small group of half a dozen regulars at the moment).
I only chose New Mills, Woz, because of my personal connection to the place. I used to mark the pitch out and put the nets up for Manchester League games in the late 60s - 10 shillings a week). We played our important school cup games on the infamous sloping pitch there and a couple of local youth cup finals.

New Mills provided the friendly opposition for Didi Hamann's very first game in charge of County during July 2011. We drew one-apiece there, with our equaliser coming courtesy of trialist Leighton McGivern.
I was there - and remember the occasion also for being the first time I saw fellow Heavener, Big Fudge!

New Mills fall over, 2-0, at the first hurdle so we will now be following Ossett United until their ultimate demise. Goals from the exotically named Basile Zottos and plain Joe Stacey. Man of the Match no nonsense tackler (I presume) Tom Cropper !!!
As stated they now take on Whitchurch Alport (at home). Any stories or information about either team will be gratefully received. Whitchurch dispatched Vauxhall Motors (at home) with a similar 2-0 scoreline.
Whitchurch Alport - Shropshire based Midlands League Premier team who finished 15th of 22 last year. Home ground is the wonderfully named Yockings Park. They are boringly nicknamed "Alport".
The club was formed in 1946 in the football season that followed World War II, being named after Alport Farm in Alport Road, Whitchurch, which had been the home of Coley Maddocks, a local footballer who had been killed in action in the war. The dressing rooms were constructed from wooden packing crates acquired from the Military Camp at Prees Heath shortly after the end of World War II.
Progress for "The Sheepicorns" looks bleatingly obvious, baaaa any upsets.
Best name in the game I can find (for Ossett) is Ifeanyi Convenant Ofoegbu. He joined Chesterfield from Huddersfield Town in 2016. He made his senior debut at the age of 16 in a 4–1 defeat by Accrington Stanley in an EFL Trophy group stage match at the Proact Stadium on 4 October 2016. In doing so he became the club's fifth youngest-ever player. Ofoegbu was offered his first professional contract in May 2018, and was released a year later, having made just 5 senior appearances for the club.

We need Shropshire Hatter to pay a visit and regale us with tales of Whitchurch Alport. He used to watch them quite regularly, as a (then) refreshing alternative to our National League North fare!

I don't think Chris gets enough mentions and/or credit when we wax lyrical about those great days in the late 80s and 90s, he as much as anyone epitomised those times and he gave his all for our club - it's really heartening to hear that he's a County fan that actually goes to games. Proper County legend is Chris.

You and I are cut from the same cloth when it comes to Chrissy B appreciation, Gazz!
He was such an integral part of the successful times under Danny - and typified the kind of previously unremarkable player that The Man From Uruguay helped to thrive. While there were, understandably, players such as Kev who attracted the publicity, Chris got on with his job - scoring some cracking goals, as well as playing in a variety of positions, during his time with us.
Proper team man, too. Will never forget when he could have walked in our fifth goal against West Brom, but squared for 'Big Willow' to do so against his former club instead.
I met him briefly the other night at Phil Brennan's book launch. Smashing, down-to-earth bloke who clearly still loves the club.
Which reminds me... I will post elsewhere the feature I wrote about the event!
