 Fantastic news. I'd hoped for a little longer contract than that, but I guess both parties have to see how the step up to the FL goes first and then go from there. The important thing is that he's staying with us and gets his chance. I'm super confident that he'll make the step up with ease, though. Ash is a one hundred percent, undiluted County legend, so this is the best news of the lot for me! |

Northampton Town are one of my favourites to compete for automatic promotion so stealing a CH from the stingiest defence in L2 last year gives me a nice feeling.
I like the sound of Highly rated.... commanding performances.....L2 Team of the Year...... and the rest.
So, OK, sounds like we have the dominant CH I was thinking we needed to replace Hogan and play alongside Johnson and Palmer.
I suspect we may be about to release a few players though, maybe Barclay and/or Kitching at the back, and we currently have 10 midfielders, so I suspect one or two may go from that group, maybe Newby and/or Keane. Nothing wrong with having depth at key positions but logically some players will have limited opportunities as things stand
I'd still like an experienced L1 or 2 GK though, but all the signs are positive.
All that said I can't help thinking of a story Ian Watts, or maybe Jimmy Timms told me years ago about an MEN headline "County Sign Former England U21" - who turned out to be a 30-something year-old bloke looking for beer money.... those days are long gone and hopefully they'll stay that way.

I think the current crop of signings have real potential in improving the side, but the best one for me was a certain Mr Collar signing in for a few more years.
I'd still like to see us manage to sign another forward, similar in ilk to Quigley who I felt really did not show his best from January onwards, and I wouldn't be too bothered if we put him on the list
