Dave has the potential to become a County legend.
They both played for County
He isn't a County fan but Jim is
For me Dave still has to connect with the fans in the way he did with the Poolies
Daves team, thus far, plays better and more effective football
For me Jim still shades it, but DC could very well reach Jim's level of standing with the clubs fans

I think DC could well be the man that finally gets the fanbase united, pulling in the same direction and willing to move on from Jim.
If you're comparing him with Jim on the legend stakes, though, then - and this is just my opinion, mind - I have to say that this shouldn't even be a thought yet, never mind a conversation.

I do want to add that early impressions suggest to me that Dave Challinor is the real deal, and could well be the man to take this club not only back to the football League, but also push us up to League One and maybe higher - especially if Mark Stott backs him sufficiently.
Jim's special, and not just in my eyes, but DC could well be on the path to carving his own place in the Hall of fame. There's a long way to go, but he seems to have the same qualities that Jim possesses and that can only bode well for us, providing we can keep hold of him, of course!

A difficult call but for me DC hasn't actually achieved anything at County yet. Clearly his record suggests a very good manager but he has inherited a decent team whereas JG turned it round when it was looking a bit grim during his 1st spell and won two subsequent promotions with teams costing a fraction of this one. I think that DC will get the club back into league two and beyond and if/when he does he'll be up there with JG and remembered as one of the club's greatest.

DC is doing a great job but has some way to go to match Jim.Maybe an unfair co pariso0n as he has only been here a short time compared to Jim's 3 tenures.

I've no doubt the Club will be returned to the FL by DC's leadership, as it would have been under JG's. Their approaches may be different, but both are/were rooted in playing the reality of the league, rather than some sort of 'vision' to transplant PL 'style' into the 5th division.
DC has inherited an incredibly strong set of players for this level, made them fitter and shaped into a team. His start has been great and he, the staff and the players should be very pleased with their results to date, and for injecting life back to EP from the rather pitiful situation we created for ourselves - a decision which has impacted both seasons we've had back as a FT outfit.
For me, there's not much comparison at this time. DC has taken charge for 20 matches with a squad that starts games as favourite and has had no success here (too soon, of course). JG was in place across different levels 500+ times, including being PT and competitive in a FT league and is associated with our achievements.
That said, DC has proven he can win things and get promotions elsewhere, and the potential to become a special figure in this Club's history is there. But, as was the case with JG, these things take time and commitment, as they should when we talk of Legends and the like.

Some good points and all pretty much what I expected but all put across in a reasoned and well mannered way (unlike other county fan socials and forums)
Totally agree Dave has a way to go yet to reach Jims level, not least in his connection with the fans and club as he clearly did with Pools.
But so far so good it's impressive. Good football, good interviews providing a good insight both technically and superficially in terms of no cliches, I like the fact he hasn't gone mad spending money bring more players in, utilising the talent already in the building in the right way, demanding quality and constant improvement as opposed to the cajoling not wanting to upset anyone nonsense qe saw earlier in the season.
Also... credit to Wilson the players he brought are now proving to be the right players under the right manager

I can only echo the statements of others, given time DC could become a legend, especially should he take us up through the leagues, but any comparison with Jim is unfair on both. As a player and a manager Jim took us up through the divisions and lived and breathed the club like a fan because he was, and is, one. We may have to disagree on giving credit to Wilson though... if you had given anyone the option of bringing in those players they would have taken it, possibly he is the snake oil charmer who convinced them, I don't know.

I agree with you on this, Duds, I really am loathe to crediting Wilson with anything but the negatives we've seen since he sacked Jim. I also think that the progress made under DC has been in spite of Wilson's input, not because of it. I honestly believe he's a chancer who won over Mark Stott with his McKnight-style bullshit, but I get the feeling that he's had his wings clipped now, whether that's because of the money he spent on taking us sideways then backwards, or because DC made it clear that he wanted to be left alone to run the first team, but whatever the reason, he's been a lot quieter since DC took over - that can't be a coincidence and long may it continue. Aside from that, you make some very good points, Mainstandmoaner.

I'd say it's a bit unfair to compare the 2 really.
I love a good Curry and I also love a Sunday roast but wouldn't throw them on the same plate together!
I love Jim and I'm loving what Dave has come in and done / achieved so far in such a short amount of time so for me it's not Jim V Dave, it's Jim / Dave both want what's best for County.
