After a fairly even start the youngsters of Almería have taken the lead after 13 minutes with a sharp right footed strike from 15 yards.

75 minutes still 1-1 El Palo with the better chances but still could go either way. The fast youngsters are worrying the local faithful every time they break!

Today’s fixture is away at Huétor Vega, Hector Vegas as I like to call them. It is a small town (city) of 11,000 inhabitants just to the south of Granada in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. I have actually been through the town en route to a hike through the mountains. The team recently had an affiliation with Granada CF to develop their players but this deal has stopped since the pandemic. Hopefully it means they are woefully under strength against the El Palo warriors…
They are currently one off the relegation zone with an annoying 10 points. Annoying because they have played 9 scored 9 and conceded 9!

This weekend was a test weekend for the El Palo crew, like the National League there are an odd number of teams so every team gets a couple of rest weekends!
Sadly other results mean that we have fallen from a okay off place to ninth!

Today we are hosting the mighty UD (unión deportivo) San Pedro which is a small town to the south of Marbella. It was started in 1860 and it’s founder decided to name it after his mother Petra!
Half time 0-0 we have been on top the whole half without quite producing the final finish! I have done my part to boost attendances. Today I have brought my colleague who has been to a few games. The principal of my school and a the French Canadian husband of a Russian American lady I exercise with!
On a side note, another school in our group is based in San Pedro so the three of us are definitely rooting for a Palo victory!

A change of shape at half time saw San Pedro come much more into the game and after one near miss, in the 64th minute the away side took the lead with their first effort on target. Striker turned the defender 30 yards out and ran through to place it past the keeper. As much as we huffed and puffed there appeared to be no way back in and I had turned to my two new match going companions and told them there presence would no longer be required!
In the 93rd minute substitute Villegas, who had been on the pitch 4 minutes, powered home an equalising header from 6 yards cue mayhem, delight and invites reissued! A couple of celebratory drinks later and the world was put to rights! Oh and we are still 3 points off the playoffs!
