Descanso (half time - literally means rest) 0-0. El Palo the best team but no chances where you felt that should have scored.

54 sloppy El Palo ball across the back gives Torre a clear chance. Good save by the keeper.
59 Torre hit the back post with a looping header. Come on Palo

71. Still Torre on top. We have three up front but no link up in between so we are creating nothing. Something has to change

I've only just been able to catch up with this, Duds. Another excellent live commentary and the unbeaten run continues! There seems to be some real belief throughout the team, which is something we could do with at EP right now - does their manager fancy a change of scenery for a bit?!

In the early years of the 13th century. A Christian knight called Pero Xil created a town close to the provincial capital of Jaén province. In this town he built a tower. Therefore the town became known as Torreperogil! His family ruled the town directly for over a hundred years before backing the wrong side in the Castilian Civil war of the 14th century (to distinguish it from the many others!). On to today’s game and this town of 7500 people is going to be invaded by the mighty El Palo! They have so far accumulated 4 points and 8 goals in 7 games whilst conceding 14. Winning only once against the bottom of the table side.

As Torreperogil is 200 km inland the poor Paleños had to deal with wet stuff falling from the sky. That can surely excuse the red card we received shortly after half time. That proved to be the match highlight with no goals to talk about…

The point sees El Palo remain in fourth spot only two points off the top of the table. Next week we host top of the table Almería B…

Next up for the El Palo boys are Almería B, the town/province is famous as a tourist destination and also the source of much of the fresh vegetables, fruits and salads in U.K. supermarkets!
Their first team currently sit top of La Segunda Liga three points clear with a game in hand to play on Sunday. Their youth team who we play tomorrow are also top of the league but are only 2 points ahead of 4th placed El Palo so a home victory on Sunday could mean…
They have scored 17 in their 8 matches (partidos) conceding one per game on average although each victory has been by a single goal except for a 6-0 demolition of Melilla.

Now for a little bit of history! Almería was funded in 955 by Moorish traders from North Africa. Its name is Arabic (as are almost all things in Spain that start with al) and Almería means the watchtower, named after the sea defences constructed there. It held out against the Spanish reconquest by the catholics until 1489. After that it was regularly raided by Barbary pirates for the next couple of hundred years. During the 16th century it was struck by 4 powerful earthquakes causing much damage, the one 1522 devastated much of the city. Roll on 400 years and the Nazi war machine used Almería as target practice during the Spanish Civil War as it became the last major Andalusian city to fall to Franco’s fascist army in 1939.
