So what happened? Did we maintain our impeccable home record? Was my girlfriend a curse or a blessing? Did our relationship last the 90 minutes?
As I have mentioned previously we sit on concrete steps so it can get a little chilly for the buttocks, especially when temperatures overnight drop as low as 14 degrees…. In order to ensure I didn’t spend the game hearing about such discomfort I gave her ladyship my county scarf to use as a thermal layer, I know such disrespect will get the rewards it merits. Anyway onto the game, after a bright opening from El Palo with a couple of decent chances for the midfielder Balde playing upfront for some reason the game became relatively balanced with neither side creating great chances. During the week, Largo (a towering figure in our defence literally and metaphorically) was released by mutual consent and as a result we had another midfielder in central defence. This left the side somewhere unbalanced as Balde is the best ball playing midfielder and Duran who was in defence is the best passer in the middle of the pitch. Needless to say after half an hour the inevitable happened and I had to offer the house keys to my girlfriend as the away team took the lead after a corner from the left was headed back across and then over the keeper. Maybe somewhat at fault, Lennie let me know what you think! At half time two strikers were warming up and Falu and Destiny came on, just the change we were asking for! Balde dropped back into centre midfield and Duran moved forward into a deep midfield role but this did leave another creative midfielder in the centre of defence. Within two minutes of the restart our right back decided not to tackle their left winger, bam nil - two! Our heads kept up and we felt that if we got one then we would still be in with a chance. With half an hour to go we said this goal needs to come soon, and it did. Sadly at the wrong end as, once again, appalling defending gifted them a goal. The keys were once again proffered! One of those days when it is simply not to be. One bad day doesn’t demean the amazing start to the season, onwards we go. Time to see what character this team have. After the last defeat we won five in a row. Real Jaén won again to take over top spot on goal difference, Marbella also won to sit just two points behind!

Like with County, I'll refrain from watching the highlights of a defeat, Duds and simply say unlucky boys. It's been a great season so far, so I'm confident that they will go put it right in the next game!

Hard to blame the keeper this time Duds. If he stays back the guy has a free header, at least he put him under a bit of pressure. Perhaps should have come and stayed big, but in the heat of the moment the keeper can't always cover every defender's mistakes (see WF thread from last Thursday and the Fleetwood game !).
Time to move on. Crap happens.

You can't win them all Duds, but its been a good season so far. Tell Duran he should be more 'Hungry Like The Wolf'. Good luck with the next match

Another great report, Duds, despite the disappointing result! Move on, Paleños - and go again next time.

Almost half way through the season with some big games to come. Today sees us once more heading into the hinterlands of Andalusia with a two hour drive to Torredonjimeno in Jaén province. They have had a mixed season and currently sit in eleventh position with eleven points, two points off the drop. They have lost three of the last four but all the defeats were against teams in the playoff positions. Table topping Real Jaén take on fourth place Almería B at twelve today, the same time that Marbella take on Malaga B. As we kick off at five thirty we will have to be reactive. Hopefully a week that started with team building activities, as the squad went on a paintballing day out on Monday, will finish with us building a new winning streak!

A little tardy with this but nothing of note happened last weekend as we recorded our first draw of the season with neither side able to fashion a goal. The video highlights show a couple of great stops by the keeper which suggests our defensive frailties have not yet been resolved.

There was always going to be the odd bump in the road, Duds, that's Football.
Their overall form this season has been outstanding, so we're surely going to see them get back on track sooner rather than later.
Keep the faith, mate!

Sorry been feeling a bit under the weather for a few days and so am late once more posting news. A home game on Sunday gave us the chance to close the gap on leaders Real Jaén who beat Melilla 7-0 on Saturday. We started slowly but then changed our shape and found a well crafted goal with a nice finish from Ito. The ref was having a a nightmare with any challenge from us resulting in a card and theirs not even a free kick. Into the 93rd minute and Falu takes a shot which is blocked as he goes to follow up he is taken down from behind see video…
Needless to say Fergie time was applied and in the sixth of the five added minutes Torreperogil equalise with the last kick of the encounter.

Thanks Macc, I’m fine now just a really heavy cold. The kids have been sharing it around school for the last few weeks and now they’ve given it to me!

So I return from a long day’s filming with great news of the El Palo mid week bank holiday action!
An 87th minute winner from Falu gave us a vital 0-1 away win even more so as Real Jaén could only draw their fixture. This leaves us two points behind them (damn that ref last week!) we are level on points with Marbella FC in a three way tear up for the league title this season.
We play first tomorrow in the genuine Málaga derby against Málaga B and so have the chance to return, albeit briefly, to the top of the table! Our ‘student’ opponents are effectively Málaga FC’s youth team and they have had a very mixed season so far and have failed to score in their last four fixtures, but have still drawn three. Fingers crossed for a good performance and result.
