Sixteen canal locks there, too. Takes a whole day to get through by barge! About the same time as the bus from Hayfield to Stockport via Marple.

So last Sunday saw us apparently dominate for most of the game and then score with ten minutes remaining on the clock. The old adage of you’re never more vulnerable than when you score rang true as Torreperogil equalised less than two minutes later. Final score 1-1. We currently sit in eighth, four points off the playoffs. Next up are Almería B ( whose first team are in the automatic promotion spots in to La Liga currently) the slightly annoying part for me is that I was actually in Almería last weekend so I could have made it an away day! Almería B are at this moment one poor and one place ahead of El Palo. ¡Vamos Paleños!

I know it's not a win but at least it's not a defeat, so it's still a vital point, Duds.
On to the next game, I'm sure the boys will get a result!

Sadly Gazz they did not return from Almería with three points. In fact a 2-0 defeat and another red card hints at a season of transition. There is an outside chance of making the playoffs but it’s looking less likely as the draws and defeats add up. I can tell it’s been too long since I’ve watched them in person. Roll on Sunday! Vamos Palo!

A long awaited return to the Nuevo San Ignacio after an absence of a month. El Palo were hosting Huétor Vega, who were four points and two league places below at the start of the day. I arrived a few minutes late as I had to squeeze a game of padel (which I won!) and a picnic lunch on the beach in before the match. It’s a tough life out here…
After only nine minutes the ball was played into the Vega box through the centre and the El Palo forward put his head in where it hurts and as a result got kicked in it! Penalty for El Palo and it was calmly tucked away Falu Aranda. We went on to dominate most of the play and control the game without creating too many clear opportunities. Then, just before half time, everything changed. Vega built a good attack across the pitch and their centre forward moved towards the box with the ball. One of our defenders made a pretty untidy tackle but the striker continued into the box only for the ref to blow his whistle, give the free kick and show a straight red. Given some of the fouls I’ve seen at this ground that was a soft decision! Having made it to half time still with the lead intact it became Clear quite quickly that this was going to be a long second half for the white shirted locals… after forcing several half chances and blocks and putting four men in attack it was clear that Vega we’re going for it. And after nine minutes came the equaliser, an exquisitely taken goal. The right winger was heading towards the corner flag when he backheeled the ball into the path of the striker some 25 yards out who unleashed a first time rocket shot they the keeper was unable to keep out. The next ten minutes were interminable with a string of chances, saves, blocks and near misses but slowly we came back into the game creating one or two good opportunities of our own. In the end we have to be more than happy with the point and the effort and commitment shown today was excellent. Final score 1-1 next home game is not for another three weeks. Vamoooooo Palo!

Madonna has a lot to answer for… FFS, where does that result leave the boys now, Duds? Tenth in the table of seventeen, ten points above the drop and nine off the playoff spots. As there are only four games left it can safely be said the season is over now… There’s always next season!

FFS, where does that result leave the boys now, Duds? Tenth in the table of seventeen, ten points above the drop and nine off the playoff spots. As there are only four games left it can safely be said the season is over now… There’s always next season! It's a huge disappointment after they showed such promise earlier in the season, but I think the way to look at it now is that at least they managed to get enough points to avoid a relegation scrap. Maybe they can take confidence from some of those better performances, using them as a springboard to make more progress next season. I hope they can use those last four games to end the season strongly, Duds.

Sadly the lyrics wouldn’t fit the tune!
‘Las cosas sólo pueden mejorar‘
