Blustery and drizzling... definitely a day for set-pieces and high balls to test defences!

Missing this one as a reporter, due to other work. Looking out of my window at the conditions, I am really not too sorry!

More joy on the ball today through the lines and across the pitch - a combination of smarter passing and Salford not being well-drilled off the ball.
That said, two good chances came from back-to-front play. Bennett got in behind when they defender misread the flight and a second came by getting around him for a longer ball.
Sharpness of control/finish the main reason we're between going in 0-0 rather than at least 2 up... and that will come.

Massive improvement on the Rochdale match. Goal originally given to Bell but Reid got his boot in with the last touch.
Neville was there so once again on the losing side ;
Barnes made a couple of decent saves.
Think we had at least 11+ shots.
Think the next match is 5th Sept according to JK.

Could have ended 5-0 that one, very comfortable. In the end a set-piece settled it with Walker's inswinging corner being met by Reid, who again linked well during his time on the field. His hard work again intercepted a back pass to create an opportunity from nothing.

Barnes made a couple of decent saves. Yes, even when we only have one of the books, that's a point worth highlighting as it's easy for it to go under the radar after a game where we were dominant. So far he's looked fine enough in his kicking but the one where he got down sharp to his right to stop the 20-yard effort was well watched on the surface and a smart save, I thought. Gilmour is a FL player and I'm sure he'll do great, especially in a 3-man midfield, breaking lines and ghosting in for pull backs. Kitching at LCB is certainly worth checking out to retain the option of a left-footer should Stott get injured or fall out of form. Only worry is that his arms do tend to be away from his body a lot stylistically so the closer to the box, the more the worry of penalties conceded I would have. I think it was him who provided light-relief when he rolled the ball into the giant puddle so the Salford player had to swim to take the throw. Rooney did the most majestic piece of skill and Coleman worked hard on the right and it was nice to see him try the 'correct' ball to the near post for a JG side, even if it got intercepted. How we've missed football... well, County.

Sore nose for Nyal, heading Reid's leg! Good to see both in the thick of it to get the winner!

Hopefully enough to save Jim's vocal chords on a Saturday afternoon. No seriously we have some really promising players in he squad to low for rotation as the games come thick and fast from October onwards.

Absolutely! Great credit to them all, including the staff, for being able to put a performance like that together.

Missed this one as I had to spend the day on the beach with some friends... were we significantly better or were Salford just worse than the Fleetwood and Rochdale? Regardless of this it is still a good result against a side from the league above who are much closer to their season than we are. And a first goal!!
