A sad loss to music, he was a brilliant talent. Didn't he hold the record for the longest note held in a song with 'Lovely Day'? Record or not, mere mortals like me would probably pass out if they ever dared to try it!

I thought Lovely Day held that record, too, Gazz-man - and it does, so far as the US charts are concerned. But having checked (as current circumstances allow time to do such things!), I find Bill's 18 seconds are pipped on this side of the pond by Morten Harket's 20-second note in A-ha's Summer Moved On minor hit from 2000. On the technical side, the Lovely Day note is sustained in chest voice, and probably more of an achievement against Harket's use of the falsetto range. So - there you have it, pop kids!
