I know it's not like me to be serious but make sure you all stay safe out there and look after each other

Sharing the working from home rota with my manager who's got a daughter home from school as the CEO wants one of us on site all the time. I've got Thursdays and every other Friday at home but my sometimes tortuous trip home is no longer, as the roads are dead. It's weird seeing all the hotels and most of the shops in Ambleside closed.

There's a Johnson press conference at 20:30, mate. The timing tells me we're going into lockdown, with the later than usual press conference maybe to ensure sure there's no mad rush for the supermarkets as they're all closed? I may be wrong, but I honestly think it's lockdown time, so maybe you'll be working from home permanently from tomorrow.

sandy, i don't think you're being selfish in the slightest - you're trying to minimise your contact with others, and that's what we should all be doing.
after a week in the house, i have been to sainsbury's today. quieter than usual for four in the afternoon. a couple of aisles looked decimated, but most of it was ok. i noticed that the lager and beer aisle was empty - clearly people are taking care of their priorities.
i'm quite self-contained anyway - i'm happy to just be lolling round the house, but 12 weeks? or more likely, much longer? there are fundamental changes in behaviour required of all of us, and that is going to be more difficult for some than others. this thread has already been really good as an update and set of experiences, and more broadly, people will need to find ways of doing things like this to help them cope in such unprecidented times. very strange in sainsbury's to think 'i've got an itchy nose' immediately followed by 'i'm just going to ignore it' and the countless other times i would normally have touched my face until i got home and went through chemical de-germification (didn't want to use 'sterilization'!).

Many thanks for the update, Maccy. Please pass on our very best wishes to Richard and his family, matey, we are all rooting for him to beat this.
Keep fighting, Richard.

Day 2 of mother in law stay.
Walked the dog for 1 and a half hours (instead of 1 hour) spoke to 4 other dog walkers but only 1 at a time and from across the road.
The roads are like my childhood of the 50's - very quiet. Lovely to be out in the sun, but still a cold wind.
Then cut the lawn (and that of my next door neighbour who is stuck in Spain !!). The lengths I will go to self isolate !

The roads are like my childhood of the 50's so like the famous five, but with a compulsory maximum of two or be dispersed...

Hearing talk of trains still being crammed this morning.
Emergency services, utilities and communications companies should be the only people in work right now, with strict distancing and hygiene rules in place. Everyone else should be staying at home for two weeks.
the only way to properly beat this is with proper isolation.
There's still no concrete messages here. We're being told to stay at home, but also being told to go to work, then we're being told to go the park for one jog or fresh air walk a day etc - who's going to draw up the rota to make sure the place isn't packed?
This needs a major lockdown, not a half arsed 'go into work but stay in when you get home' measure - we're STILL mixing on trains and in work, not to mention sharing workspaces. I won't bother going into detail about my own job, but unless we're handed a box of wipes, a mask and a box of gloves each, we're going to be at risk.

My partner's bosses have just told her and her colleagues that they can't have a mask, because they're needed for the medical staff - what medical staff?
They're a small, family company with half the workforce now working from home, leaving around a handful of people on site, including TWO directors.
The boss asked her what's her biggest fear, she said "dying", to which the boss responded "really?" - are they f***ing kidding? Then she was told she can't share a lift with anyone now, so with buses a no go for fear of greater exposure and taxis being pretty much the same as getting a lift, what the f*** does she do?
The bosses are STILL trying to find out what's what regarding this "80%" pay scheme that the government announced, seriously? This was announced over a f***ing week ago, they should have found out within hours, not weeks!
Three or four masks can't be spared to protect your employees? Jesus Christ.
What a f***ing country.
