Have heard this afternoon for the first time this afternoon that someone I know has been hospitalised by CV. He's a friend and a fellow member of my squash club (whose doors, as Club Chair, I had to close last week). In his early '60s, an active player and as fit as a butcher's dog - but now with acute symptoms, and on a ventilator. I think the term is this sh*t just got real. Sadly for many people that will be the point it hits home. I’ve just been on my balcony listening to an entire city applauding their healthcare workers, it is inspiring to hear. I normally go out about 5 minutes early and you can hear it getting gradually louder from all parts of the city. People have now also started to flash their balcony lights too! Then after the silence of the city returns and that is really evocative. I hope that your friend pulls through. Stay safe all

Having not gone on a 5 day trip to Shetland this weekend, I took the decision to postpone to the end of September (when hopefully I shall be able to go), I have done numerous jobs in the garden, and enjoyed myself. Had a long chat with 4 neighbours - all of us standing 2 metres apart on the road all bemoaning the youngsters who are still going round in groups, as though there is not an issue, also topics high on the agenda: hoarding, panic buying, school and whose kids should be able to stay off etc etc and hopefully normality later in the year with us all still around! Hence the protective actions we take
Mrs MHH and I both qualify as keyworkers, but Mini Market and Harborough Junior are not going to school as the Govt have said keep them home if you can, and as I now am working from home, and Mrs MHH works 3 days week, we feel this is the importand and correct thing to do.
Each voice on this thread is a positive voice, prepared to do their little bit for the greater good. Well done all!! Stay safe and well, we will all be back at Edgeley Park (when?) but we will be back

best wishes to everybody who is already having a crap experience with it. i've not been out since tuesday, because i decided to leave it a bit for all the selfish nutjobs to buy enough toilet paper to build their bunkers with. my mum and dad were up today, but we stayed further apart than usual and were out in the garden for a lot of it. my dad is due to have a stent fitted on wednesday if they don't cancel it, and i don't particularly like the thought of him being in MRI overnight with all this going on.
i think this is going to get quite oppositional - already we're having mass disinformation from the twattersphere, idiots having big parties and still living their lives relatively normally, mental survivalists, and people trying to heed the guidance but also keep a level head. i trust (from years of reading your posts and occasionally meeting the odd one of you) that CH is mostly in the latter group. stay well and stay positive everyone.

I'm off work until next Sunday, but I'm staying indoors for the whole week and not going anywhere near anyone. It's absolutely crushing me already not being able to go see my folks and my kids, but it's got to be done. Stay safe, Ant1 Ant2

Hi all
Sorry for my absences of late.
It's all a bit sh*t, isn't it? I'm quite lucky, in that I managed to move my office home last week, so I can more or less work to normal capacity from here, and will be at home with our boys for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately, Mrs Sandy is a secondary teacher, and will need to go into school at least two days a week to teach the few kids of key workers who have to go in. Well, I say 'teach', but it's essentially just child minding. At her school of over 1,300, there are currently around 30 who must go in, so it's a skeleton staff but they all have to take turns. Schools are now essentially our 4th emergency service.
One of the bits of advice I have seen for all teachers, which has really brought the severity of this home, is that they must immediately strip when they come in the front door after a day at school (let's be honest, if any kids are going to be carrying it, it'll be the ones of key workers going to school still), place all their clothes in a bin bag, carry the bin bag to the washing machine and empty it without touching the machine itself, head straight to the shower, and only once showered can they closed the washing machine door and turn it on and then see the family. That will now be the norm for the foreseeable future. If I'm honest, I'm feeling a little selfish, as I've had an online delivery slot booked with Tesco for a couple of weeks, and it's due to come tomorrow. Christ knows what will turn up out of our order, but I'm feeling incredibly guilty for not cancelling the slot and letting someone elderly take it instead. Do I risk going out to get shopping myself, because I'm physically able to and have a car, so that someone else can have their's delivered? But what's to say my slot won't go to some low-life who was the first to begin stockpiling loo roll like a f***ing moron?
As a final point, if anyone is interested, I've started hosting a 'virtual pub night' on the Facebook page I have for my blog, and last Friday was quite good fun, with a pub quiz and 'pub' topics to debate like the best Bond film, your ideal festival line up, etc. If anyone fancies joining us this Friday, give me a shout.
Other than that, take care everyone, and please don't go out unless you absolutely must.

good to hear from you Sandy.
From my son today (working from home with a couple of ankle biters in tow):-
Home schooling going well. Only two students expelled for fighting and one teacher sacked for drinking on the job

Like everyone, it's taking it toll at Epworth Mansions. We're all fine and have the same stresses and strains as many.
I was talking to someone the other day trying to remember the last time the nation tuned in to listen to politician and the daily briefings. John Nott during the Falklands War was the answer and Brian Hanrahan counting the planes out and in. That should give some sense of the significance of what is going on.
I remember the financial crash of 2008/9. It was described as a 'bloodbath' as the economy collapsed. That was over a period of months and could be managed. It was a but a scratch compared to this. Literally overnight many well run companies had all their customers stop spending and orders cancelled. Just think about that for a minute. All monthly fixed costs to pay and zero income. Overnight.
We have quite a lot of close family in the NHS. A nurse in a busy hospital who is about to get hit with rising cases in the next week. Another who works in Infection Control and is advising hospitals in proper sanitation. She's on regular calls with senior NHS people and guidance is moving at lightening speed. The worst case scenario planning they are doing (and trying to avoid) is horrifying. And one who works for a GP practice who's job it is to visit people in their house to see if they have C-19 and decide if they need to go into hospital - couldn't get more front line than that. He's really worried about the lack of proper PPE (it seems like every country has been caught out in this regard).
And still there are morons ignoring the advice. We have rightly prioritised lives over livelihoods, but the cost is tens of thousands of people are losing jobs. The least people can do is stay away from others and shop once a week. Frankly, I could cry at the brainless selfishness of these fwits.

Absolutely.
My sister in law is a nurse. She has asthma and is around 5 months pregnant. Her manager has had a go at her for not being in work this week. It really f***ing beggars belief.
I've since looked at Tesco's website and there is not now a delivery slot free until at least the middle of April, so I've had to be selfish and keep our shopping delivery tomorrow night in order that we can stay in. Mrs Sandy will have to try and pick up bits on her way to and from school for the next couple of months, it seems.
It'll be good to keep in contact with you guys on here and share experiences and advice.
Thanks to my second family. Love to you all x

Thanks to my second family. Love to you all x I absolutely second that, mate. Let's all be here for each other and stay sensible for the greater good, even though we're fighting against a f***ing Tsunami of weapons grade f**kwittery.

I can sense the rest the world looking at us and shaking their collective heads in disbelief. We're not the most well-liked nation on the planet as it is, but I think that's going to be mild compared to where it's going to end up unless the rest of the country pulls its finger it. My sister in law is a nurse. She has asthma and is around 5 months pregnant. Her manager has had a go at her for not being in work this week. It really f***ing beggars belief. I’ve just been messaging a friend who is from Prague. He sent me pictures from the tube in London this morning asking what the f is going on. In Prague every shop apart from food stores are closed and you are supposed to wear a mask in the street.
This was my reply to him.
My own family are isolating as much as possible. The problem is that it potentially only needs one of them to come into contact with one of these idiots...
