Me: "What's up John you look like you've got the weight of the world on your shoulders". John: "I'm really struggling to find the bandwidth to steer this ship in the direction it needs to be heading" Me: "Eh?" John: "Yeah, look I'm struggling to find the time to manage this business" Me: "Why, what are you doing?" John: "It's the lads. I just can't get them to stand the right side of the tree" Me: walking away shaking head thinking "that's probably because they think you're an utter tw##" Now that is corporate bullsh*t mate. Is that the tree with low hanging fruit or the tree you need to shake to see what ideas fall out? God alone knows since I'm fairly sure he had no idea what he was on about. It was the beauty of working short term contracts. If you came across someone like that, and I've encountered a few over the years, I knew I was only there for 3 or 6 months.

www.mixcloud.com/StockportCountyLive/county-aim-to-pull-out-of-mini-slump-on-dag-red-trip/Although it's already in the Dag & Red match thread, I've posted here it too because JG chats about the appointment from 11:00 minutes onwards. I think JG's obviously correct to point out that he's had to do a lot of work beyond the first team management in terms of general leadership of the club, rebuilding it and taking it in a more professional direction. In the apparent absence of leadership, he filled it. But with a new owner, it's only fair he's given the best chance to succeed as a manager, so having him able to dedicate his time to his role rather than spreading himself thin makes sense. Plus, putting sentiments aside (ie. if it wasn't JG), having someone doing a kind of 'one man band' act doesn't point to a healthy structure. Bringing in someone who has worked over a good period of time, and recently too, at clubs much higher than where we find ourselves, should be a great asset for both the first team and beyond. In terms of potential managerial change, I think less of this appointment and more about the Championship in 7 years thing. 'Overnight' and in the middle of a season, we've gone from owners with no will/ability to support FT football, and who could basically 'hide' by keeping JG at the healm ("We'll be FT when JG decides"), to someone who says he can back us financially and made a grand statement. And that statement seems to requires a hell of a performance, and quickly.

That's an excellent assessment, H.

Has there been any mention of the Life Presidents? I assume they are being quietly canned? I nice gesture at the time and a way of trying to drum up more revenue when times were really tough, but now no longer needed - especially as some were a disruptive presence at times?

I think Flynny's Life Presidency has to be kept in place, as I don't think Mark Stott would argue that he's thoroughly earned his - and then some.
As you say, though, Eps, one LP in particular had far too much to say on MB a while back, so I don't know about them or any of the others.

Great interview with no bullsh*t, just plain speaking and honesty regarding hard work and earning the success, rather than just trying to buy it. Anyone else notice the two Magpies flying into the background towards the end of the interview? Two for joy, anyone?!
