Not sure what I make of this move, another full time salaried member of staff who is not a player being a drain ion finances or an individual who will help Jim in all aspects of improving the team, and in which case its a good move

I don't like it.

mark stott sounded like he was behind jim in his interview. got to give him the opportunity to show he's the right man. with mcknight, they had the excuse of dipping into the relegation zone in the mansfield game. there were also other people around who had criticised jim, like peter snape. feels like a different time to me, but we'll see...maybe he's already looking at a manager who has run the hot dog stand at the azerbaijani league leaders...

Have a listen to the Dark days episodes of binbag's brilliant podcast, mate, some of the stuff that went on during that McKnight era is absolutely f***ing staggering. Cirak turning up in England with no boots, then demanding that the club buy him two pairs of Predators is just the tip of the iceberg! You've got to give it a listen, mate.

The only thing I read into this is that Stott will need deep pockets because the club will have to attract the kind of players who are good enough to adapt their game to use the data provided. If not then it'll be a monumental waste of time and money and I don't see him wanting to be involved in failure for long.

Have a listen to the Dark days episodes You've got to give it a listen, mate. i will do mate. cheers for the recommendation. i really really liked the podcast, but must admit i got out of listening to it because i only listen when i'm actually at my computer - i don't listen on the move like most people do. the tone was always spot on for me, because it was sharp and funny at a time when laughing at the tragicomedy of county was the best thing to do for our collective mental health.

If not then it'll be a monumental waste of time and money and I don't see him wanting to be involved in failure for long. Not just players, but the manager and coaching staff. I suppose the expectation will be that Jim and his team adapt tactics and training regimes according to what the data says. Let's see how that plays out as the last thing we need is a clash between Jim and Wilson. Hopefully the lines of responsibilities will be clearly defined. One consequence of the takeover, and the strengthening of the club's financial situation, is that it lessens Jim's position of strength. Previously, Jim was pretty secure in the knowledge that he is one of the best managers around and probably too good for a club at this level. Our reputation, level and finances meant that we were never going to get anyone better - so Jim is secure. Now we have the financial clout to get a Director of Football and sign players on 2.5 year FT contracts. Deep pockets mean we can attract not just better players, but better potential Managers. Mark Stott has made all the right noises about Jim and supporting him - I just hope this new Director of Football has been appointed with Jim's blessing and with him having a big say in how the new structure is going to work (and, more importantly, how it's not going to work). (I'm a sceptic by instinct, so I don't want to dampen anyone's enthusiasm - I'm just sharing my idle thoughts on the matter.)

Sometimes, even the best can get too comfortable in a job.
I'm not for one minute suggesting that Jim is not trying as hard as he can, I'm just hoping that the removal of his, for want of a better description, 'safety net', will have a positive effect on him.
Along with the changes in structure and what appears to be a delegation of some of his duties, this might help him focus on what he does best, which is building football teams that win football matches - taking him and the club to another level.
I really hope this works, because he has earned the chance to work with a strong, competitive budget and show what he can really do without the restraints that were previously holding us back.
This may sound like I'm saying that Jim Gannon is County and without him there's no County, but that is absolutely not the case here. I want what's best for the club, as he does, so whatever it takes to get us back to where we belong is always the priority for me - I'd just rather it be with Jim than without him, that's all.
I'm on the fence right now regarding what this new appointment will mean for him, but we'll all find out sooner or later.

Apologies for all the edits in my above post, I just didn't want to make endless 'Columbo' posts, but I promise I've stopped tinkering now!

Apologies for the corporate bs, but I live my life in this world and here's a quote I like that seemed appropriate...
“If we fail to see pain as only an unwelcome intruder, we’ll fail to ask the right questions, and our heartache will be wasted. Comfort is overrated. It doesn’t lead to happiness. It makes us lazy – and forgetful. It often leads to self-absorption, boredom, and discontent. Discomfort can be a catalyst for growth. It makes us yearn for something more. It forces us to change, stretch, and adapt.”

John: "I'm really struggling to find the bandwidth to steer this ship in the direction it needs to be heading" the only proper response to this is to let out a wordless, angry cry, then f*** off to greggs to pasty your way to oblivion.
