We have been approached by a prominent football writer who is working with the Cocker family to write a book about Les' life in football. Les was born in Stockport, played for Stockport Boys and appeared in the first team at County where he played over 170 times for The Hatters. He made his debut in 1946. Les became Don Revies number two during the halcyon days at Elland Road and of course was on the coaching staff for England between 1962 and 1977. He sat on the bench alongside Sir Alf Ramsey on Englands greatest day in 1966. The writer of the book has asked for County fans to share any memories they have of Les whilst he was at County. Do you have any memories of seeing Les play at County? If so would you be prepared to share these for inclusion in the book? All contributions will be acknoweldged Please email info@scanscheme.org and we will put you in touch with the writer.

Sorry, even a bit before my time.
My grandad did tell me that if you threw your cap up the pitch he would chase after it and punce (kick) it in the net.
All 1960's Hatters wee very proud of his appearance with England at the World Cup winning tournament.

I have previously interviewed, and still have some contact with, Phil Burrows (ex-York/Plymouth/Hereford defender), who now lives in Bramhall and whose late father Arthur's time as a County player would have overlapped with that of Les Cocker.
May be worth a chat with Phil. Just drop me a PM if you feel this is a lead to pursue.
