Welcome to EP for what will be the second in a series of four successive Saturday home matches, and a fleeting return to Skrill North action – sandwiched as today’s fixture is between the FA Cup Qualifying Rounds.
Worcester, like County, successfully negotiated a Cup-tie against lower-league opponents last Saturday. They are also on a good run of form at present, having not tasted defeat for almost a month, so will provide a tough test today. Hopefully, though, County’s newly-found propensity to keep consecutive clean sheets may continue... with a goal or two at the other end thrown in, naturally!
Over now to my esteemed co-writer, and some news that you will simply not want to miss!

Thanks, Maccy – and good afternoon everyone.
Firstly, we have an important announcement to make. Towards the end of 2011, one of our founder members, bringbacklenwhite (you might remember him from such favourites as “The Limerick Lounge” and “Coming Soon At The Plaza Cinema”), created C.H.A.O.S. (County Heaven’s Anecdotes of Sport). Over 26 weeks, he compiled an A-Z of sporting tales provided by our members, including (but not limited to) heart-warming recollections of past players, hilarious stories from matches over the years, and accounts of playing in (and refereeing) amateur leagues around the country.
Such was the calibre of this anthology, we’ve decided to collect the best entries together and produce a book - titled, as one might expect, ‘C.H.A.O.S.’ The book is priced at £6.99 (plus P&P if you want it delivering) and all profits will be going to Lennie’s chosen charity, The British Heart Foundation. For full details, or if you would like to order a copy, please e-mail me at sandbachhatter@hotmail.co.uk. We’ve only done a limited print run initially, so order soon to avoid disappointment. It’s the perfect stock(port)ing filler for any County fan!
On a more melancholic note, everyone at County Heaven was disappointed to learn that, after many years associated with the Club, Phil Brennan departed this week. Phil has been instrumental in not only bringing mine and Maccy’s writing talent to the masses, but also the Hatters Hike earlier this year and, most recently, the book I’ve just told you about.
A nicer, harder-working bloke you could not hope to meet and, if you read this Phil, everyone at CHHQ hopes you stay in touch and wishes you all the best for the future.
On that note, I know Maccy would like to say a few words so I’ll hand you back over.
Hatter in Macc writes again:
Yes, indeed. Huge thanks, on behalf of Heaveners everywhere, to Phil – with whom it was a true pleasure and privilege to work, and who, in his rare, less-than-lucid moments, was courageous enough to refer other clubs to Sandy and me when they were seeking visiting fans to interview for their own programmes! A brave chap, then – but, more importantly, a great County fan and a smashing guy. Cheers, Phil.
And, while we’re plugging books, keep your eyes peeled for Phil’s own work about the Club legend that was Danny Bergara – coming to a bookshop near you soon. Definitely one that promises to be a fine addition to any shelf. Only make sure that you’ve bought yourself a copy of ‘C.H.A.O.S.’ first, eh?!
Enjoy the game.
