Without a doubt we would not be currently top of the league if he weren’t our keeper.

Although I'd have to say that Richard O'Donnell is the best keeper we've had since we dropped out of the Football League, Ben is easily the best keeper we've had since dropping to this level - he really is top quality.
Cheers for sharing, Ceef!

O’Donnell has been a keeper at a number of league clubs since his time with us. Definitely a good keeper. And our first sponsoree if I recall correctly

hinchliffe's not the tallest and the speed at which he gets down in several of those including the last save on the video is brilliant. it would already be under them and in for most 'keepers. what say you, leonard of walking football?

He reminds me of Neil Edwards. Similar height and excellent shot stopper and great on crosses despite being under 6 foot.

I think they reckoned Shilts (does your wife know you are here?) was worth 20 points a season to Leicester, so 10 wins. Looking at Herms man of the match poll Hinch is in that bracket.

We really have been spoiled for goalkeepers down the years and, horses for courses, Ben is definitely up there right now with his performances. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that he could cut it in the Football League, if he was given the chance and the financial stability to quit his 'day' job Neil takes some beating, though. Jonesy is understandably top dog on many fans' lists, but he was only with us for one season, whereas Neil was consistently brilliant throughout his whole five years as our number 1 - I don't think you'll ever see a better debut from any County player, either! Apologies, memory lane appeared before me and I couldn't resist a little stroll!

That last stop in particular would be drooled over on MOTD. Incredible save.

jim had a great period of getting excellent loanee 'keepers in too: herr hennessey and the nine in a row, jon ruddy who was great for us and his save from tommy wright's header against darlo was one of my faves...then the season after we went up, frazer forster... not a bad selection for a two year period, that.

A great compilation of shot stopping. Never realised he was only 6ft tall (6ft and 0.8 inches on conversion according to Wiki). I had a trial with Rotherham when I was 17 and I was told (in 1971 !!) that at 5 ft 11 inches I need to be excellent and you could only get away with being good if you were at least 6ft 1in. I would add 2 inches to that assessment in the modern game. I like the way Ben dictates to his defence and seems to read shots very early. Not seen much evidence of him being commanding in the air but modern keepers seem to leave that part of the game to their defenders (I would be b*ll*cked severely for not coming out to the penalty spot for corners and crosses. Wearing short sleeves throughout winter marks him out as a hard case and, yes I agree, he is worth 15-20 points a game (look at the scores in the corner when those vital saves were made). De Gea has done this for United for the last 6-7 years, they would have been in deep sh*te without him.

Paul Jones was, for me, the best 'keeper we ever had. I recall one save in particular in a game v Bristol Rovers towards the end of our promotion winning season. The team was beginning to look distinctly weary (who could blame them after so many games) and at 1-0 we were hanging on. A Bristol player had a shot from the edge of the penalty area which Jones, diving to his right had covered until it took a deflection which completely changed its trajectory and yet he still somehow managed to twist and reach up and knock it past the post. As an aside I saw Brian Lloyd in his second stint at County after he'd returned to the club from Wrexham score from a wind assisted clearance at Valley Parade to take County into half time with a 1-0 lead. It must have p**sed Bradford off no end since they scored 6 second half goals without reply

i think it was the watford game, late in the '96-'97 season in which jones shone the best, with a series of cracking saves. i think it was the game in which luis cavaco broke his leg, and the team really struggled to that win. it was an absolutely vital one though.
