Those who think Steve Smith has been the difference between the two sides in this Ashes series are only half right, as another massive difference for me has been the quality of the Aussie bowling attack.
They've just been a lot quicker, a lot tighter and had more variation when compared to our own bowlers.
I honestly don't think the World Cup has helped us.

Agreed, gazz. Roy and Bairstow are still in one day / 2020 mode and will probably never leave it. As demonstrated by the manner of their dismissals. They can't cope with this top quality bowling.
Our big problem is no competition for batting places as the County Championship is so low on quality.
Smith is helping the Aussies avoid defeat, but their bowlers and our poor batting is meaning we're struggling to even draw.

What is it with these Aussies chatting away in the field? Matthew Wade rabbitting away at the moment making references about Archer, can't they win games without abrasive comments and abrasive paper?
Gobsh*tes.

Absolutely clueless and gutless this, can't even avoid the follow-on.
Once the Ashes are sealed in this test, which they will be, Joe Root has to have a serious think about what he wants to do regarding the captaincy going forward.
Leeds aside, this series has been a dire performance from the Captain and his side.

The problem is that under Strauss, Giles and Bayliss everything has been planning for the World Cup - a great achievement, but long since forgotten now the Ashes have started.
In that time, the 4 day game has withered on the vine and it's going to take a long time (if ever?) to get the focus on Test Cricket. I wonder 'if ever' as the new 100 competition takes us further away.
It will interesting to see who replaces Bayliss after this series, and what his targets are.
Either way, this is dire as it's far from the strongest Aussie team we've ever seen.

I said something similar to a mate yesterday, Eps I can't remember an Ashes series being contested by two sides as ordinary as these.
Australia have been the better side and deserve to win the Ashes thus far, but they're still the poorest Aussie side I have seen in my time watching Cricket.
I honestly believe that Test Cricket is slowly being killed off. Whether that's deliberate or not is open for debate, but it's definitely on the decline.
I don't think its survival is as big a priority with the powers that be as that of the limited overs game.

It’s all about money.
The Test crowds around the world are very poor. England is the only place where they get the numbers and the revenue. Sponsorship is also less.
Compare that to the various T20 competitions, such as the IPL, and that’s where the TV, advertising and gate money is. And so that is where the administrators are.
Very sad.

I totally agree with this, mate and when T20 came along, I really did fear the worst. Test Cricket is the BEST form of the game, without question, but the accountants don't agree.

I'm glad he finds it funny. That said, he's being paid to watch this sh*t, so I guess he can afford to.

Absolutely clueless and gutless this, can't even avoid the follow-on. That's me proved wrong! Follow-on avoided, with the Aussies now 28-3 after some excellent bowling from Broad and Archer - can we do the unthinkable again and save this match? Doubtful.

Two wickets down already - what a shower of sh*t.
What the f*** is Root doing not sending out a nightwatchman? f***ing clueless. He's got to stand down after this and get back to doing what he does best - not being the captain.

Ironically, he is one of, say, just three players in today's 11 (Stokes and Archer are the others) who have a realistic long-term future with England - but as you say, matey, it really should not be with the added burden of captaincy in his case.

Oh definitely, mate. His batting ability is why he needs to remain in the team, but his captaincy has just not been good enough. This was highlighted perfectly yesterday evening when, instead of replacing Burns with a nightwatchman, he walked out to the middle and allowed the Aussies to take his wicket first ball - absolutely unforgivable decision that may well have cost us a better chance of saving the match and taking the Ashes to the final test.
