Happy Bank Holiday, everyone. Welcome back to EP for the second time in just over a week, and, for any Welsh speakers among our visitors, croeso i Fae Colwyn!
Matches against The Bay are likely to be ones which, at this level, offer you the best chance of seeing a mixture of former Premiership and/or international stars in action. The Manager, Frank Sinclair (capped by Jamaica), and the Coach, Ade Akinbiyi (Nigeria), both remain registered to grace the Skrill North turf. Since the new season started, Louis Moss (Barbados) has also signed up, and, at the time of going to press, Pascal Chimbonda (France) is being offered a short-term contract. Add to the script a couple of former County players – namely, Cameron Darkwah and Paul Ennis – who may line up against us, and, frankly, what will happen this afternoon is anyone’s guess. But, then, as County fans, we are rather well versed in the ways of unpredictability!
Most importantly of all, let us hope that today sees the opening of our home-points account – particularly after such a disappointing outcome here against Boston, in front of a crowd whose size exceeded all but one of the day’s non-league attendances anywhere, not to mention a good few gates in Leagues One and Two. Printing deadlines mean that we cannot comment on last Saturday’s trip to Altrincham, although at Workington, just under a week ago, there was a collective sigh of relief from the sizeable travelling contingent over a well-deserved draw – definitely the proverbial game of two halves, given that prevailing headwind from off the West Cumbrian coast!
And, with that, it’s over to Sandy...

Thanks, Maccy.
As you would imagine, County Heaven was a buzzing hive of excitement and optimism prior to our opening fixture of the season...and somewhat less so after it. But, to use a cliché, it’s a marathon not a sprint – and we have to hope the result and performance against Boston was simply a blip which will be long forgotten come the end of the season.
So, other than our opening fixture, what else has kept us occupied over at CHHQ? Well, the same day also saw the start of the latest Premier League campaign which can only mean one thing...no, not an increase in sales at Bentley (and Louis Vitton for the WAGs) – it’s the latest Fantasy Football Competition! As is customary, I’ve had another poor start but this is mostly due to my refusal to include any Un*t*d or C*ty players out of principle. Plus, my Captain (Lampard) missed a penalty on the opening day...the plank.
Elsewhere, Gazza has won two of the last three limerick competitions (either side of a victory for Benno), and at the time of writing my esteemed co-writer is currently leading Downy’s prediction league.
Lastly, Archie was victorious in my recent ‘treasure hunt’ quiz, thanks in part to being the first to identify the next team in this sequence: Chesterfield, Sheffield United, Blackburn, West Ham...Think you know who it is? Then get on over to County Heaven to find out if you’re right!
