The point I would deem Jim a failure is once we've had a season back as FT and Jim is the only boss the players have instead of their day to day job bosses! i agree that really we need this testing. he's had three years to build his team and we do now have this f/t / p/t hybrid with the extra training. in that respect i fully believe that we are better off than a number of clubs in this division. in terms of the very top, then this is sobering reading:
Season Winner Play-off Winner 2004–05 Southport Altrincham 2005–06 Northwich Victoria Stafford Rangers 2006–07 Droylsden Farsley Celtic 2007–08 Kettering Town Barrow 2008–09 Tamworth Gateshead 2009–10 Southport Fleetwood Town 2010–11 Alfreton Town A.F.C. Telford United 2011–12 Hyde Nuneaton Town 2012–13 Chester F.C. Halifax Town 2013–14 A.F.C. Telford United Altrincham 2014–15 Barrow Guiseley 2015–16 Solihull Moors North Ferriby United 2016–17 A.F.C. Fylde F.C. Halifax Town 2017–18 Salford City Harrogate Town
a very high proportion of the above were either full time, properly bankrolled, or at least experiencing an unusual financial bump as their owners chanced their arm.
i'm stuck between agreeing that the club should be sustainable, but frustrated with the outcome. if other teams are financially doping then how do we compete at the top end?
that said, when jim saved us and we were all chanting for his appointment away at rochdale, i could sense him building something. back then, when he introduced us to the 'point attacker' system i found our football exciting and with a real focus. i sometimes feel as though there's just this whirl of tactics and little adjustments (the modern game?) and they seem to make little impact. i wonder if he's our jose mourinho - once the way forward and now a bit of a busted flush. given his undoubted experience and tactical nous, shouldn't we be doing better than we are? there might be a glass ceiling below a bankrolled north ferriby, barrow, fylde, harrogate, salford, or a club deciding to chance their arm with investment to go full time like solihull, telford, halifax etc have done, but if we're not the 'best of the rest', why not? i think perhaps some of us -i know i certainly did- looked over the summer and thought that while there's some full time teams, there aren't the obvious bankrolled clubs of previous years. of course traveling and sitting in the cold for little reward solidifies that annoyance, but while the board's model sees us at a disadvantage in comparison to some others, not enough is being got out of our players.
i think getting rid of jim without giving him an opportunity with a full time squad is throwing the baby out with the bathwater, but that doesn't make sitting through the unfocused football we have been doing any more palatable. it should be better now, and the board should be working to find a way for us to be a full time operation (with exceptions like hinchliffe and warburton) next season. yes, we may well be stronger in the second half of the season, but i'd pretty much accepted a seventh year at this level by september, and i'm f***ing bored of it. for me, nobody is coming out of it well at present.

Forza, you say it's nothing personal against Jim but the most you post the more I think you just want him out regardless! This ^^^

And This ^^^ I'd even go as far to say that Jim needs a proper, committed board behind him before he can be fairly judged - he's never going to get that with this current bunch, nor is anyone else for that matter.

JG: We need to be FT. Board: We're waiting for you to tell us when. JG: We need to be FT.
Board to BBC: We're going FT next season. BBC: Oh, isn't it cute that one of yous is a lorry driver!
JK: What pleased you most about today's game? JG: I didn't say we're going FT next season.
Board: You want to be FT though. JG: Not on a PT budget. Board: But you knew when you signed we were operating sustainably. Brexit means Brexit and all that. JG: Which is why we're hybrid next season and you're dipping into your pockets you bunch of Junckers. Board: Ok, well we'll say it's FT and that you've been offered a FT contract regardless of whether Vincent Kompany's forehead makes it through the door, but that's it's best to keep Hinchliffe and Warby. JG: I do like Ben's kicking to be fair, good point.
Board: We're pleased you've signed the new contract. Well done on finishing 3rd and bad luck in the play-off final. What do you want to say in the press release? JG: We need to be FT. Board: We're just waiting for you to say when.
JG: I'll need a couple of loans. Dixon: My legs work now, boss. Oswell: Can I come back to get a bit of game time. I might just score 30 goals or something crazy. JG: No to you both. Ball: I love you, dad. JG: I love you too and I'm in the station car park waiting for you. Big K: Jim, I know I'm 48 but I can hold it up better than anyone in the league. JG: And you didn't break any seats in shooting practice! Amis: But the board wanted 5000 breaking so they wouldn't have to pay for the FL ground licence. HtH: Oh, shouldn't we have fixed the Railway End then? Flynny: *Beer face*
Hinchliffe: You were shouting something about my kicking... JG: WE NEED TO BE FT, BEN. Hinchliffe: Yes, it was a bit overhit. Dimaio: Is my watch working because it's the 88th minute and everyone knows that's when I come on. JG: Connor, get warmed up. Dimaio: What do you want me to do? JG: When the opponent assistant trips me up when I go to retrieve the ball, kick him in the nuts. Turnbull: *snigger* Crowd: Go on Darren, go on, yes all the way. OH FFS! Twitter: OH FFS! Facebook: Gannon out! JK: Is this a squad that can get promotion? Stott: To be honest, I'm just pleased I'm not currently in Oldham. JK: 3, 2, 1... Is this a squad that can get promoted? Stott: Yes, 100%. We go again as Dux says.
Mini-Herm: What the hell have you got me into, dad? Me: I love you, son. Mini-Herm: I love you too.

Maybe the tactics that worked in League 2 in 2008 don't work in this league in 2018?

Maybe the tactics that worked in League 2 in 2008 don't work in this league in 2018? Maybe you need to decide whether or not you want to be a part of this forum before joining in on this debate?

I agree.
I want to be a part of it but sometimes I want to walk away.
I'm very confused.

Very interesting PM.
Would you like to run it past the other admins first or is your decision final?

regardless of whether Vincent Kompany's forehead makes it through the door i enjoyed all of season six of 'stockport in village hell' herm, but the above made me snort. one correction though - surely it's a 'fivehead' in vince's case.
now i've called him vince i'm imagining him with penny in...whatever that thing was called...
...'just good friends' of course.

For goodness sake, Gannon, what are you doing ? Only beating a team that has scored 15 goals in their last two games 3-1 away from home, after a long trek to the north east. Get your act together or go !
