Wonder if Schmeichel has calmed down with his team mates after last night.
3 penalty saves should really see you through !

To be honest. I'm fully claiming the victory personally.
I have been at Old Trafford (the proper one) watching the cricket this evening and after the game was watching the football on the big screens. When it went to pens, I decided to place a mockers bet. £35 on Colombia in the hope that somehow I might be able to influence the outcome. I believe I am due to be recognised in the New Years Honours. England, you are welcome! Get in!

Dier's penalty - first time Mrs Herm, mini-Herm and me have all screamed and group hugged after a goal. Of all the players out there, I wasn't expecting it to be him that caused that reaction! Anyway, some outstanding individual performances (thankfully spread out across the pitch) and we can progress while still knowing there can be more to come from the side if we can work on the shape across the different phases of the game. The save will get overlooked due to Columbia's goal from the subsequent corner, but Pickford pulled off a great one there, nevermind with the penalty save.

It was a great save, but after seeing the many replays it looked like it was going wide.
Huge sigh of relief here and, although we were all watching on the shop floor on our various mobile devices, we were able to stop our lines to go up to the canteen to watch the shoot-out - a huge groan of disappointment when Dier stepped up for the decider was replaced by a huge roar when he smashed it in!
Get the f*** IN!

I thought England looked good at the back and generally comfortable in the formation. I just think they're going to struggle to score from open play because Sterling and Alli didn't do enough (Alli is probably unfit / injured, Sterling never does anything). It's even more difficult because the wingbacks have very little to aim at when crossing: Kane picked up by two CBs, and then Sterling, Lingard and Alli who are unlikely to win many headers.
I hope Rashford and Loftus-Cheek start ahead of Sterling and Alli for the next game to give us a better chance of scoring from open play.
Great result anyway and really pleasing for Southgate.

3 year old grand-daughter's summing up of the game:-
Yellows be naughty They say no. Reds say YES !
Move over Lineker, Shearer, Neville etc. A career beckons for "Little Miss Junior Len".

Dier's penalty - first time Mrs Herm, mini-Herm and me have all screamed and group hugged after a goal. i was on the 'phone to my mum, dad and brother who were watching it together and passing me round like a hot potato. i said to dad in the first half of extra time that if it got to pens, henderson and lingard would miss. nearly right. not as costly as expected.
i was quiet after dier's penalty, but i made a very strange involuntary noise when pickford saved the previous one with his tiny little tyrannosaurus forearms. fortunately, nobody heard - i was three or four seconds ahead of them and they put the 'phone down every time a pen was about to be taken so i wouldn't spoil it!
now able to go watch the quarter-final with them all on saturday. county at halifax never had a chance...
