yeah, asking for gravy with my chips got me laughed at incredulously when i was living in oxford. it is a real divide. never heard of chips and sweet and sour though

Without question the most revolting thing I've ever had in my mouth (and having been to China on business trips the bar is set quite low) was a white pudding with chips from a chippy in Dunvegan on Skye. Thick, glutinous sludge, it seemed to be nothing short of a lump of deep fried fat that makes my stomach churn just thinking about it nearly 40 years after the event.
