Two developments: 1. Eppers has contacted me from the wild's of Scotland to say he would like to play. I've therefore given him the team I was allocated and I'll bow out. Thanks, sandy, much appreciated. Very noble! I just hope it's worth it and I last beyond the weekend...

Not a problem - I prefer not to take part anyway so I was only making up numbers! Good luck!

Cheers Gaz. Fully recovered from Saturday's heat exhaustion (didn't realise at the time except my wee was very, very yellow). come on lennie - you're clearly not trying hard enough unless it's at least a kind of burnt umber and the consistency of treacle...

My lot have had 21 managers in 24 years !!
Sounds like County in the late 70's and 80's.

Afternoon.
Due to the time difference between ourselves and China, the first set of results are now in:
Saturday 24th June
Liaoning Hongyun (Archie) 1-2 Tianjin Quanjian (Sandy Jnr) Yanbian (Mrs Macc) 0-2 Shanghai Shenhua (Gazz) Shandong Luneng (Maccy) 2-2 Guizhou Hengfeng Zhicheng (ARS) Chongqing Lifan (Hermann) 1-1 Changchun Yatai (County Benno) Tianjin Teda (Market Harborough) 1-2 Guangzhou R&F FC (Epworth)
Sunday 25th June
Guangzhou Evergrande (Ceefer) 2-0 Hebei CFFC (Dudley) Shanghai SIPG FC (Macc Jnr) 4-1 Henan Jianye (BBLW)
Monday 26th June
Beijing Guoan (Countyfan) 0-0 Jiangsu Suning FC (Downy)
***
All of which means, we bid a fond farewell (and thanks for taking part) to Archie, Mrs Macc, Market Harborough, Dudley and Lennie.
Sandy Jnr, Gazz, Epworth, Ceefer and Macc Jnr are safely through to the next round.
Maccy, ARS, Hermann, Benno, Countyfan and Downy are all involved in a tie-break situation.
So, could I ask those six Heaveners above, to send me their guess for the following tie-break decider by midday on Wednesday:
On Wednesday evening, Portugal take on Chile in the semi-final of the Confederations Cup. What will be the time of the first goal? If you think the match will finish 0-0, simply answer with 90 minutes.
NB: To go through, you only need to be closer to the time of the first goal than your original opponent (so it will not necessarily be the three with the closest guesses who proceed).
Thanks

I think I was in the first match played and therefore the first knocked out. Pretty much par for these events. Best of luck to Sandy Jnr. Maybe a final against Macc Jnr beckons.

Morning all
With last night's Portugal v Chile match remaining goalless throughout 90 minutes and extra time, I think we can safely call 120 minutes the time of the first goal (but it wouldn't make any difference if we stopped at 90).
Those going through to the next round are:
another_ruined_saturday (67) Hermann (26) countyfan (63)
And we bid farewell to:
Maccy (31) Benno (18) Downy (36)
Thanks for playing gents.
The next round of fixtures will follow shortly.

In the next round we have:
Tianjin Quanjian (Sandy Jnr) Shanghai Shenhua (Gazz) Guizhou Hengfeng Zhicheng (ARS) Chongqing Lifan (Hermann) Guangzhou R&F FC (Epworth) Guangzhou Evergrande (Ceefer) Shanghai SIPG FC (Macc Jnr) Beijing Guoan (Countyfan)
The next set of fixtures are:
Friday 30th June
Shanghai Shenhua (Gazz) v Liaoning Hongyun (eliminated)
Saturday 1st July
Changchun Yatai (eliminated) v Beijing Guoan (Countyfan) Guangzhou R&F FC (Epworth) v Chongqing Lifan (Hermann) Jiangsu Suning FC (eliminated) v Shanghai SIPG FC (Macc Jnr)
Sunday 2nd July
Guizhou Hengfeng Zhicheng (ARS) v Yanbian (eliminated) Tianjin Quanjian (Sandy Jnr) v Guangzhou Evergrande (Ceefer)
Remember, if you're playing an eliminated team, a draw will be sufficient to see you safely through to the next round. Those playing another Heavener need to win to go through. A draw will see a tie-break decider in those matches.
Good luck everyone.

Doh - there was me imaging that two Latin countries would treat us to fast-flowing, free-scoring football from the outset, rather than failing to hit a barn-door between them!
Well played, exile, and good luck in the next round. Cheers, as ever, for the game, Sandmeister.

I always seem to progress in games where I have absolutely no intellectual input whatsoever - I suspect there's a painful truth in that somewhere!

The next set of results are in:
Friday 30th June
Shanghai Shenhua (Gazz) 8-1 Liaoning Hongyun (eliminated) - Gazz through (and then some!)
Saturday 1st July
Changchun Yatai (eliminated) 2-1 Beijing Guoan (Countyfan) - Countyfan eliminated Guangzhou R&F FC (Epworth) 3-4 Chongqing Lifan (Hermann) - Epworth eliminated, Hermann through Jiangsu Suning FC (eliminated) 0-1 Shanghai SIPG FC (Macc Jnr) - Macc Jnr through
Sunday 2nd July
Guizhou Hengfeng Zhicheng (ARS) 1-2 Yanbian (eliminated) - ARS eliminated Tianjin Quanjian (Sandy Jnr) 4-3 Guangzhou Evergrande (Ceefer) - Sandy Jnr through, Ceefer eliminated
So, we bid farewell to Countyfan, Epworth, ARS and Ceefer. Thanks for taking part chaps.
Our final four are:
Shanghai Shenhua (Gazz) Chongqing Lifan (Hermann) Shanghai SIPG FC (Macc Jnr) Tianjin Quanjian (Sandy Jnr)
We need to get down to three teams, so there will be one more round of fixtures. In the event we are not left with three teams, there will be a tie-break decider for qualification to the final.
Fixtures to follow....
