Looks like another useful acquisition, certainly need to shore up the leaky defence a bit

JG has always prided himself on having success with young teams. Seeing as we are heading for FT over the next season or two, Cowan is the sort of young player we need. He has improved a lot since his arrival and if he continues then he could be a great defender in time. Pleased about this.

Great news - and utterly deserved. This season's 'Mr Consistency'.

Am I missing anyone when I say that Cowan therefore joins Minihan, Ball, Stephenson and Walker on the list of those who are signed on for next season?

Ben McKenna has left County: www.stockportcounty.com/ben-mckenna-leaves-county/A lot of people seemed to rate him, and he never got much of a chance. He obviously wanted more game time, hopefully he'll find a club that can give him more opportunities.

It would be easy to link his podcast comments to his departure but I think him being on a week-to-week contract and having West come on as the final sub against York showed that he wouldn't be part of any future plans.
One of the names not mentioned in the press release is Minihan, whose return this month (if on schedule) would put McKenna further down the pecking order given Minihan has featured a fair bit ahead of the FB on the right, where McKenna was usually used.
The early criticism JG had of him was the lack of end product. His league stats: 5 starts (12 subs) and no goals support that. But, as JG himself said, he looks beyond the goals to all round play. The only other 'stat' which might reflect end product though is assists. I believe his only assist came for the only goal against Gainsborough when he crossed from the left, his preferred side to play on:
On the other hand, his cup stats saw 3 goals from his 2 starts (4 subs). In terms of performance, he brought energy and workrate, pace and some skill, and won his fair share in the air for a 'not very tall' player. A good example was the brave header to create the break for a goal at Southport in the FAT:
Given the demands on wing-backs in back 3/5 systems, my overall impression was that he would do well for a club in that role unless his end product is better once given a run of games (which, of course, it may well be).
Anyway, did his best on the pitch and I too hope he gets a good run elsewhere.

Sounds like he didn't get much of a chance or maybe he didn't show enough in training?
Anyway, good luck to the fella.
