Evening folks
Market Harborough is your host this week, so let's get straight down to business...
Here we go then, another selection of the strange football teams of the world, this time starting with the letter M.
Our first jaunt is across the Atlantic, to central American and in particular to El Salvador. I have chosen CD Municipal Limeno, based in the city of Santa Rosa de Lima.
CD Municipal Limeno (El Salvador)
They play in the 5000 capacity Estadio Jose Ramon Flores (I like the trees in the stand):
Although currently playing in the 2nd Division of El Salvadorian football they have been reasonably successful in the top flight, whilst never winning the title, they have lost the equivalent of a Grand Final twice.
But the reason I have chosen them is:
In 2009 due to the football club Chaletenango having financial problems, Limeno actually bought their place in the Primera Division, but deservedly they got relegated at the end of that first season and have not been promoted since!
Ok, off round the world but to where?
Back across the Atlantic to a country that I last saw when I was nearly 4 years old and to the city of Jos in Nigeria and to the team called...
Mighty Jets (Nigeria)
Playing in red shirts and black shorts they play in front of 15000 fans at the Rwang Pam Stadium, in the Nigerian National Division (2nd tier). They share this stadium with not one but two other teams: JUTH FC, and Plateau United.
Due to crowd trouble in 2014 they were banished to the city of Owerri – approximately 500 kilometres away for the remainder of their home games (similar to when Man Utd had to play a European tie in Plymouth (except there were probably lots of United fans that far away).
However now back in Jos they are trying with a new board of Directors to get themselves promoted to the Nigerian premier League – good luck!
And finally we shall be heading North-East, this time stopping in Iran, to be precise, with the football club....
They must not to be confused with their great city rivals Tractor Sazi Tabriz. Based in the north of the country they were formed in 1969 playing their first game in 1970.
At the end of last season and after a 19 year absence and playing in green and white they reached the promised land again, and were promoted to the Iranian Premier League (known as the Persian Gulf Pro League). However all is not plain sailing as they currently are the strongest team in the league with 2 wins in 22 games and have all the remaining fifteen teams above them (sorry for the old joke).
Playing in a 25000 capacity stadium the Bagh Shomal Stadium...
....which used to be shared with the aforementioned Tractor Sazi but this stadium is of course worldly famous for Iran’s record win in football. In 2000 they put 19 goals past Guam (even England could probably manage that).
So, do you want El Salvador, Nigeria or Iran to join the anthology, I will vote later in the week, but now its your choice.
Regards
