Evening all
Next up is Ceefer, and his three suggestions for Week I....
Ice-cube, ice-cream & Italian pizza all begin with the letter 'I' but have little to do with football apart from an 'ice bath' after a match on a sunny day? and Claudio Ranieri's not so lavish 'clean sheet' spending on Leicester City players this season.
So here goes starting in Egypt……….

So here goes starting in Egypt……….
Ittihad El-Shorta (Egypt)
Ittihad El-Shorta founded in 1980 and play at what better place than the ‘El-Shorta’ stadium in Cairo. The all-seater stadium has a capacity of 5000 or 22000 depending which website you believe and is shared with El Daklyeh F.C
Ittihad are also known as the Police Union so are probably Egypt’s version of the Metropolitan Police Football Club currently plying their 'trade' in the Isthmian Premier. They are now playing in the Second Division after being relegated from the Premier Division last season.
World ranking is 1074 and they are on their 4th manager since 2008.
The stadium appears to be a well-kept secret as having searched high and low this is the only image I could find.
They sport a somewhat 'original' team kit and it must be weird wearing the away kit for one match against El Daklyeh at the stadium.
Claims to Fame
I didn’t know Yaya Toure was playing for them so I double checked the team sheet again only to find the players name is actually Yaya Traoré. Close and I guess it's an easy mistake to make.
Forward Osama Osman Christian and Surname are almost an anagram of each other.... erm yes almost.
Bonus.....team name not being spelt Etihad…
Founded in 1911 the clubs nickname is the 'Strawberry Lashers'.
They have spent most of their time between the First and Second Divisions and now play in the Second Division
Irapuato played at the Estadio Revolucion but moved to the newly built Estadio Sergio León Chávez in 1969. The capacity was increased from 16,000 to 33,000 in 1985 in time to host the Group C matches in the 1986 World Cup (Russia, Hungary and Canada all had the pleasure). This looks like a pretty impressive stadium with ample room for standing..
.
In 2004 they hit the hard times when they were relegated to the Second Division for off-field financial 'activities' and just 9 years later the team were relegated to the Third Division for a year.
There most recent success was being crowned Champions in the 2 part of the 2011 season (Clausura ) by defeating Tijuana in the 2 legs final with an overall score of 2–1. Reckon they must have made some brass there.
They returned to the Second Division in 2014 when Ballenas Galeana FC moved to Irapuato and changed their name to Club Irapuato. ( sounds like some kind of merger / takeover took place).
They play in red and blue home kit and a largely white away kit. I think County have more kits than they do.
Claims to fame
Feast your eyes on the Irapuato Goalkeeper football shirt from the 1989/90
They have a forward on the books called Roberto Martinez, American midfielder Yari Allnutt played for them in 1996 and Ecuadorian international Edison Mendez in 2004.
The club was formed in 1945
I thought I'd break the mould with the last write up being for the Ladies team although they do field a men’s team.
The Ladies team play at the spectacular Hásteinsvöllur stadium which has a capacity of 3034 and was renovated in 2002. It is situated in the city of Vestmannaeyjar in the Southern region of Iceland. This looks like extreme terrain.
They are coached by Ian Jeffs from Chester and play in the Icelandic Womens Premier League where not surprisingly the season runs from the end of April to the end of September.
The team play in white with the 3 V's on their socks
In 2016 they finished 5th after playing 18 games and amassing 31 points and finished the season strongly with the last 7 results being WLWLWWD.
They did well in the 3 Cups coming in runners up in the 'Cup', 'Woman's Cup' and winning the 'League Cup'.
Claim to Fame
Last year’s squad was made up mostly by Icelanders, but there were also 2 English [Abigail Cottam (forward) and Rebekah Bass (midfielder)], 2 American 1 Norwegian, 1 Canadian and 1 Jamaican.
Playing football in such an extreme location.
