It's a sorry state of affairs, gazz. There was an academic on the radio yesterday saying he thinks the Democrats will pursue impeachment through the House of Representatives and it will then, inevitably, get blocked in the Senate.
However, he believed that there will be more revelations from whistle blowers (if that's what he's said the Ukrainian President, then what has he said to Putin, Mohammad bin Salman, and others?)
As all this will be played out in public (a la Bill 'I did not have sexual relations with that woman' Clinton) that will eventually lead public opinion to turn and the Republican Party (and consequently the Senate) to see him as a liability and a threat to losing the next election.
At least one Republican Senator has declared for 2020 already and if popular opinion turns, then more are likely to follow and they'll throw him to the wolves to save their own jobs.
Apparently a similar thing happened with Nixon and Watergate. At the start the public was with him and there was no call for him to leave office, but as more revelations came out, that changed quite quickly.
Either way, it will be interesting to see what happens. My only hope is that Trump's extremism is met with a moderate and not extremism on the opposite side - creating even more instability and division.

Interestingly, it's usually the small incidents, or rather the lies told in covering them up, that bring down the likes of Trump.
It may well be that Jennifer Arcuri is more of a danger to Boris Johnson than any opposition MP.

At least one Republican Senator has declared for 2020 already and if popular opinion turns, then more are likely to follow and they'll throw him to the wolves to save their own jobs. That's key to it isn't it. Same with the clown we've got. Until the Tories think he's become an electoral liability they'll defend him to the last and it doesn't matter if another MP is murdered as long as "I'm alright Jack". As long as he delivers Brexit, people will continue to vote for him because despite Sunderland and Stoke, research suggests that the majority of those who voted for it are Tory supporters who've been "left behind". Too dumb to realise that it's the Party they continue to vote for which continues to kick them while they're down and not the EU. God knows what they'll do when the penny finally drops.

Or just a good old fashioned crook who, even supposing he had the wit or self awareness to think about it, couldn't give a flying one who or what he takes down with him www.thenation.com/article/trump-republicans-ukraine-impeachment/

Vince McMahon as adviser to restart US economymetro.co.uk/2020/04/15/donald-trump-wwe-vince-mcmahon-adviser-economy-12558398/?ito=article.mweb.share.top.linkHe said: ‘We have to get our sports back, I’m tired of watching baseball games that are 14 years old. ‘I haven’t actually had too much time to watch – I would say maybe I watch one batter and then I get back to work.’ Been busy in the Oval Office have we, Don? He's pretty much blew himself up with that comment. You can't get tired of watching old sports matches if you only watch the odd passage of play, so who's he trying to kid?! I can just imagine Vince McMahon's influence making future press conferences a little more watchable, with Trump stoving a reporter's head in with a chair and challenging him to a ladder match - Commander in chief Vs Journalisto - book now on HBO pay per view!Is there anything else left from this clown to surprise us?

We've got our own nutter to contend with mate. Johnson has today stated that it is now even more important for us to leave the EU because in the wake of Covid-19 we need to be able to manage our own response independently. What's the lying bastard trying claim? That his Governments abysmal response to this shitshow is somehow the fault of the EU. It would be funny if it wasn't so tragic. And all this on the same day that this dangerous bunch of f***ers are to announce that, due in no small measure to their own incompetence we're about to extend our lockdown whilst the Germans are lifting theirs and a day or so after the announcement that thousands of Romanians are to be flown to this country to pick fruit because guess what? It turns out that the whingeing tossers who claimed that their jobs were being stolen by furriners don't want to do it after all!
