There are those in the US openly questioning whether the November elections will actually take place and others questioning whether or not he will leave office if defeated. His willingness to pervert the course of justice aided and abetted by the Republican Party who for example refused to hear any of the evidence related to his impeachment, and then acquitted him on the grounds that they hadn't heard any evidence of his guilt and Trump's appointee William Barr the Attorney General who recently refused to bring charges against former army General Flynn, despite Flynn having earlier pleaded guilty demonstrate a willingness to ride roughshod over the accepted norms of US political life.
The worry is that in this country we have a Government of right-wing zealots whose own familiarity with truth and justice is purely accidental. Witness cabinet member Nadine Dorries retweeting a blatantly edited video of a speech by Kier Starmer in which he allegedly justified relaxing the legal approach towards child sexual grooming under the word "revealing". The video was reportedly found on a far right twitter account.
Witness also the brazen lies surrounding coronavirus and the recent and in my view, deliberately misleading "advice" on staying at home which blatantly dilutes the message at a time when the magic R number has risen back towards 1 thereby allowing the Government to blame those going out and not following social distancing rules rather than their own ineptitude.
Their apparent reliance on an unelected adviser who appears to have been given carte blanche to rip up the accepted way of managing this country via the civil service and replace it with his own half-arsed and frankly gormless ideas is almost as astonishing as the silence from the right wing press who loved to stick the boot into Alastair Campbell when he performed an advisory role for Blair.
Happily according to the latest opinion polls it seems that the penny is finally beginning to drop amongst large parts of an electorate who seemed to think that, having fallen for Johnson's amiable buffoon shtick a vote for the Tory Party was a vote for competence in Government. God help them when this clueless bunch of nasty bastards impose their version of Brexit on the country.

God help them when this clueless bunch of nasty b*st*rds impose their version of Brexit on the country. Very astute and spot on mate. Equally scandalous is that fact that the opposition have been in total disarray for the last 5 years. Whoever is in power, a strong, credible opposition is a benefit for society as a whole. Unchecked and unchallenged, a government such as the current one is given carte blanche to essentially do what they like. I am very hopeful that Kier Starmer will prove to be a very good leader for the Labour Party. I think so far, he has struck the balance well between asking the tough (and necessary) questions to hold the government to account, whilst avoiding coming across as political point-scoring for the sake of it during these unprecedented times. In my opinion, it’s an absolute travesty for the nation that cantankerous, militant, unelectable Corbyn clung to the Labour leadership for as long as he did, during probably one of the most defining periods of British politics in the post war era.

When those people voted for a man who hid in a f***ing fridge to avoid being questioned live on air by Piers Morgan during the run up to the election, then you really do have to wonder if they possess any consciousness at all - let alone the ability to recognise a penny dropping.
One has to wonder, though, will the fridge he hides in during negotiations with the EU be made in Britain or Europe?!
The worst party leader, never mind 'Prime' Minister in my lifetime, that's for sure - that includes Screaming Lord Sutch!
I almost feel guilty for wishing him a speedy recovery from the virus, but I honestly don't think he had it in the first place - so I think I can put the acid bath on permanent hold!

There's no doubt that Johnson remains a popular figure despite having gone AWOL whilst the half truths and outright lies continue apace. To quote author and scientist Isaac Asimov “There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.” I think that applies increasingly to this country. Alternatively you may prefer the view of former Reich Minister of Propaganda Joseph Goebbels who said "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained for such a time as the State can shield people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State".The State doesn't have to repress dissent as the "truth" continues to be manipulated by a compliant press.

Exact same problem over here with the Tories, the media are great when they're whipping the public into a frenzy over the oppositions shortcomings but once they turn, oh they've got to go.
The similarities between him and his posh doppleganger, Boris, are becoming more and more obvious.

Lie loud enough and long enough....
The British public will start to believe
“The essential English leadership secret does not depend on particular intelligence. Rather, it depends on a remarkably stupid thick-headedness. The English follow the principle that when one lies, one should lie big, and stick to it. They keep up their lies, even at the risk of looking ridiculous.”
Joseph Goebbels 12 January 1941

Argh - it comes to something when you think: "Well, say what you like about Goebbels, but he got that spot on"!
