Greetings from a wintry Edgeley Park for the second time this week, and welcome to our visitors from Nailsworth.
My original copy for this afternoon’s article was drafted ahead of the Mansfield game, and, having added a few words to it immediately after that match, I was about to send it to the Club when the news of Jim Gannon’s departure broke late in the evening. As a result, the first draft has been completely rewritten.
Given that Sandy and I contribute to County Life on behalf of a fans’ forum, we felt we could not possibly let today pass without acknowledging, or paying a collective tribute from CH to Jim for, his efforts over the last year or so, whilst acting as Manager here for a second spell, to help resuscitate and rebuild the Club that we love. For a good few of our number, he was a reason for deciding to follow - or, more recently, reviving an interest in - County, and, for all of us, he inspired some of the Club’s best moments to savour. Ever.
County Heaven thanks you, Jim.
Whatever the feelings (and these will be many and varied) that we may have as supporters, though, the job is now to be continued without him. It is a massive one, and the opposition today could hardly be tougher. Get behind our players. It’s what Jim would want...

Thanks Maccy.
Yes, it’s that time of year again - Welcome to the County Heaven Awards 2013! Fudgie has spent literally minutes over the last few weeks collating the all important results and I’m honoured that the responsibility of revealing this year’s winners has been bestowed upon me. So, as I straighten my bow tie, and Maccy sorts out the unfortunate VPL in his Versace dress, settle down for some glitz and glamour.
*County Heaven Player of the Year – Danny Hattersley
*Best thread of the year – “Football Related Films You Would Pay To See” directed by Lennie
*Funniest Heavener 2012 – another_ruined_saturday
*Best admin – gts
*Most controversial moment – Downy deleting his account by accident then immediately returning.
*Best CHAOS (County Heaven Anecdotes Of Sport) story – Sirius Jnr’s wonderful account of Cheltenham at home, our last game in the football league.
Last, but not least, the coveted ‘Heavener of the Year 2012’. This man needs no introduction... but he’s having one. A Heavener dear to my heart, his text broadcasts from home and away games have kept those who couldn’t be there informed far quicker than the BBC or Sky Sports. Ladies and gentlemen, Hatter In Maccnificent.
While Maccy stumbles up to collect his award, there remains just enough time for me to inform you that the full awards (including ‘most ridiculous argument’, ‘most annoying poster’ and ‘honourable mentions’) will follow on ITV2. Oh, and they’ll be on County Heaven as well.
Right, Maccy has taken so long to get up here we’ve run out of time for his speech... here’s Blur!
Enjoy the game.
