There was a shout for a penalty but, from the Pop, it looked like the defender came through the side and took the ball. Seemed like JG thought it was a pen though and most of the crowd so the highlights will show what happened! Great account, Hermann - and, having had early sight of the penalty-claim video footage (filmed, of course, from the Pop Side), I agree with your take that the tackle on Lloyd was good. At least, I guess, that is one less reason for us to feel robbed!

Ah, at least that decision was correct! JG mentioned earlier in the season about linos waiting for refs to make a call and then just flagging to confirm the decision. It's become that ridiculous to watch that in previous games someone in the Pop was shouting 'Breathe in.... breathe out' to the lino to highlight the nonsense of him needing the ref to tell him what to do. Since the lino is perfectly placed to see climbing and shirt pulling on forwards, it's become a joke knowing they've seen it but are not raising the flag because the ref hasn't told them to! I know officiating can't be easy, but that 'system' doesn't work at all and renders the 'assistant' element in their title redundant.

thanks for the reports, gts and hermann. pleased that clarke is chipping in with goals at set pieces - i might be wrong, but i feel like we've not had a defender chipping in half a dozen or more for a while, and he's well on his way to that.

Agreed, exile.
In fact, today's goal sees Clarke edge ahead of Amis and Ball so far as goals in all competitions are concerned. He is now our second-highest scorer, on five!

What a frustrating match it was!!!
I don't want to be too negative as I can't complain about the progress we're making on the pitch (and behind the scenes too, which in the long run is much more important).
However, we do not create enough chances and therefore not enough goals. We are entirely reliant on Danny Lloyd for creativity and if he is having a quiet game then we create very little. I know he got sponsors MOM but for me there were more deserving players.
We are playing without wingers at the moment so everything goes down the middle and we can be one quiet easy to defend against.
As for the equaliser, it's a freaky goal that happens in football. It's just a shame it's cost us two points today. Harrogate didn't deserve anything today, I was surprised how poor they were.
On the positive side the defence looked very solid and Sam Miniham had an excellent second half in midfield and offered us an outlet that CMW doesn't possess. Lewis Montrose was excellent again.
There's lots to be optimistic about in 2017!

I know officiating can't be easy, but that 'system' doesn't work at all and renders the 'assistant' element in their title redundant. This might be a sleight of hand trick, H. Quite often the linos will switch the flag to a different hand to indicate if they think a foul should be given, or hold it in both if they are not sure -- the ref can then see it and make his or her decision. It works very well on throw-ins and corners, for example, and avoids a situation where the ref and lino signal opposite directions at the same time. It also enables the officials to indicate their gut feeling if they're not totally sure. Basically, just makes sure the crowd think they're all singing the same tune.
Of course, they may not be doing this at all (I can't get to games so I have no idea). I'm just making the general point that the officials may be communicating with each other even if they're not waving a flag wildly above their head (which forces the ref's hand, even if he or she has a better view and disagrees). In the Prem, they just have microphones and earpieces -- would be interesting to know how often they say "I have no idea" / "I wasn't looking" / "I am about 60% sure it's a penalty".

Can't really fault the performance, thought everyone, including Hinchliffe, had a decent game. Really feel for Ben, such a freak unfortunate goal to concede after such a solid game and overall season.
Montrose has been immense the last month or so for me and if not for Danny Lloyd's incredible number of goals and assists, would be my choice for player of the season. I've no doubt Jim will keep the lads heads up and prepare them thoroughly for the next game.
