Evening with Oshor Williams and Tommy Sword The Co-op is delighted to announce an evening with Oshor Williams and Tommy Sword at Stockport Gin on Wednesday 31st January, hosted by Club President, Steve Bellis. Oshor Williams began his career at Middlesbrough, having spells at Manchester United, Billingham, Gateshead and Southampton, before joining Stockport County in August 1979. Oshor made his County debut in a League Cup game against Crystal Palace at Edgeley Park and made an immediate impact, with his performance against the current England full-back Kenny Samsom. The game ended 1 – 1, with Oshor providing the cross for County’s goal against their Second division opponents. Over the next six seasons, Williams played a total of 216 games, scoring 31 goals and was appointed Club captain. He was a pivotal figure in team that won at First Division Sunderland in the League Cup, and provided many assists for Mick Quinn who was establishing himself as a star striker in the Football League. In 1984, Williams played his part in holding the reigning European Champions to two goalless draws, before losing 0 – 2 at Anfield in the League Cup. Later that season, despite publicly stating that he didn’t want to leave Edgeley Park, he was sold to Port Vale for £8,000. He would go on to gain his first honours in football, winning promotion with both Port Vale and then Preston North End, before moving into non-league football with spells at Lancaster City, Winsford United, Witton Albion and Hyde United. Oshor Williams has worked for the PFA for many years, since retiring from playing. He is now a Club ambassador for Stockport County. Tommy Sword was initially signed as a centre forward, but converted to centre back after Les Bradd suffered an injury. Sword enjoyed a successful transition to a defender, missing only three matches in his first season, whilst scoring at regular intervals. After seven seasons at Edgeley Park, he signed for Hartlepool for a fee of £5,000, but returned to County just over six months later, scoring from the spot on his second debut against Cambridge United. The big defender played his last game for the Hatters in November 1987 having become the most successful penalty taker in County’s history at the time. 24 of his penalties were scored in Football League games, with his only Cup success giving County a famous 2 – 1 victory at Roker Park, against First Division Sunderland in 1980. Tommy played for County in two spells, from 1979 to 1987, making 270 appearances and scoring 55 goals for the Hatters and was rewarded with a testimonial against Manchester City. New Year message from the Co-op board It is a privilege to release this New Year message as the new Co-op Chair, especially with County so well placed in League Two. I would like to thank Pete Towey, the outgoing Chair and Caz Burt, our former Independent Secretary, who have both been long standing Co-op stalwarts with over 10 years of service each. They can be proud of their achievements. We welcome Cath Shanley, our new Independent Secretary and Ed Chadwick on to the new board. The Co-op can look back on an exciting year. We have completed a two-year project to commission and fundraise £55,000 for a statue of our legendary former manager, Danny Bergara. Award winning sculpture Hannah Stewart was appointed in June 2022 with work commencing that September. The statue was unveiled on 8th May 2023 at our final league game of the season against Hartlepool, by the Uruguayan Ambassador, César Rodríguez Zavalla. We are very proud to have honoured Danny and are delighted by how well the statue has been received by the Bergara family and the County fanbase. The Co-op would like to extend our thanks to everyone who has supported the fundraising effort for the statue. It has been wonderful to support the local community, with the County support responding magnificently to our appeal for donations of food and toiletries for the Chelwood Food Bank against Wrexham and donations for the Wellspring homeless charity and resource centre against Sutton United, with over £1,000 collected. Sponsorship of the Community Foundation Flag Bearer scheme has been extended into a second year. This initiative enables 16 members of a junior football club and 2 coaches to attend each home game, welcome the County team onto the pitch and watch the game from the Together Stand. As well as helping the Club build the fanbase, the Co-op receives exposure with our logo on the scoreboard and announcements over the tannoy. The priority of the new Co-op board as we go into 2024 is to increase the membership of the Co-op by 40% and we have set an initial target of 350 members, by the end of the year. It is vital to ensure that the Co-op is more representative of the County fanbase, to provide us with a stronger voice when talking to the Club. To help achieve our objective of increasing membership numbers, the Co-op will be focusing on a series of events, a consultation exercise, incentives to join the Co-op and the launch of a new marketing communications strategy. A meeting with the County directors is planned for Monday 29th January, questions can be submitted via email - info@countysupporterscoop.co.uk before noon on Wednesday 24 January and a full report will be provided. On Wednesday 31st January, we are joined by County legends Oshor Williams and Tommy Sword at Stockport Gin on St Petersgate. Prices are £5 for Co-op members and £10 for non-members. Book your tickets at www.stockport-gin.com/pages/stockport-county-supporters-night. Further events with Tony Dinning and Danny Lloyd are planned, with many more to be scheduled. Membership is £12 for adults, £3 for 16 to 25 year olds and just £1 for under 16’s. If you are not a member, please join the Co-op: webcollect.org.uk/coop/subscriptionI would like to take this opportunity to wish all County fans and their family a Happy and Prosperous New Year! Dave Marchbank – Co-op Chair Join Us On The Grassy Knoll Prior to Today`s Game ! • Yes, we will again be on the Knoll next to the Cheadle End turnstiles between 13.15 and 14.25 before County`s vital game with Mansfield today. • Join us for a chat, or you can help us improve by signing up & becoming a Stockport County Supporters Cooperative member.

Focus Points From The Supporters Cooperative Board Meeting earlier this week:- SGM Fixing a date for the Special General Meeting(SGM) was the board`s first concern , and this is scheduled for 7 pm on 26 February at the Spinning Top. We need a minimum of 20 members to be present for this to go ahead thus members are urged to attend if they are able or use the SGM Zoom link we will send out prior to the meeting- one click registers your attendance! Please note there is car parking near the Spinning Top to the side of the Magnet pub. Meanwhile the accounts are now back from our Auditors and will be sent out to members shortly along with the relevant documents for the SGM. Making Your Voice Heard Where it Counts! We are anxious to represent the views of County Supporters, thus on 29 January we will be meeting the Club – if you have a question send it before Sunday 21st- to info@countysupporterscoop.co.uk -we will, as usual, report back to members and the fan base s.a.p thereafter, Your Views Are important To Us! Supporters` views are important to us hence we will also be asking you a series of questions via our upcoming `Consultation Exercise`. Discussion at the board meeting focused on a number of important issues including affordable ticket prices (walk-up and season ticket) at Edgeley Park, so fans can expect something on this and other issues within the Consultation Exercise. Alongside this, we will be producing a brochure hoping to increase awareness of just what we do, and some promotional merchandise may follow tied into our membership drive. Stockport Hatters Half Marathon. It was decided, with regret, that after 8 highly successful years the Supporters Cooperative will no longer promote and organise the Stockport Hatters Half Marathon. The race was a fantastic event and a marvellous showcase for the Cooperative, the Club and our brilliant town, as well as another substantial feather in Race Director and Cooperative Board Member John Giles` cap! Events Pending We will be organising a series of lively events that offer substantial discounts on ticket prices for Cooperative members , starting with `An Evening with Osher Williams & Tommy Sword` at the Loft @stockortgin on 31 January from 7pm. An Evening With Osher & Tommy. County` history is full of colourful `larger than life` characters and last night saw the Supporters Cooperative attract 2 such heroes to headline our latest event when Osher Williams and Tommy Sword travelled down to The Loft at Stockport Gin for our `Evening with Osher Williams & Tommy Sword. Osher and Tommy always gave 100% and were loved for it in return by County supporters and it was great that they both were able to join us at the Loft which was packed to the rafters as Club President Steve Bellis set the evening going to a burst of applause that seemed to last the whole evening! The obvious rapport between Osher and Tommy was mirrored throughout the room where County supporters hung on their every word. It was a terrific evening and even better to have ace County defender Paul Jones with us along with Dave Booth whose many talents are still remembered by those lucky enough to see him play.
