Welcome to this afternoon’s Boxing Day bout. Hopefully no actual punches will be thrown, but after recent results in the League we could really do with giving our opponents a metaphorical hyde-ing!
Even if you’re not a member of County Heaven, if you’ve checked out the site (or have at least paid attention to our previous articles), you’ll know that I run a weekly quiz. Here’s a little flavour of the brainteasers you can expect if you come along and take part – I’ll publish the answers in the Telford programme (that should sell at least a couple of extra copies, eh Phil?!). Enjoy...
1.Which Paraguayan footballer is currently on loan from Manchester City to Malaga?
2.Which insurance company sponsored the football leagues between 1993 and 1996?
3.Who scored the winner in the recent Manchester derby?
4.Which midfielder made 260 appearances for Leicester between 1996 and 2004?
5.Which £35m striker is currently on loan at West Ham, having disappointed so far at Liverpool?
6.Which Columbian striker spent 6 years at Aston Villa from 2001 to 2007?
Once you have your answers, you should note that they all share a link...except one. See if you can work out what the link is, who the odd-one-out is, and why!
Once the answers are published in the Telford programme, I may well have to go into hyde-ing – it’s been nice knowing you all!

While you’re pondering Sandy’s fiendish quiz, take a quick guess also at how many former County players may take the field today for the opposition in this, the first of the seasonal ‘double-headers’ against our near-neighbours from the other end of the M67. (And, hey, doesn’t it make a refreshing change to be playing host to a club that isn’t Southport?!)
Ryan Crowther, David Poole and Adam Griffin are all featuring regularly for Hyde this term - the latter as Captain - and each has played his part in helping to move the Tigers up the table after a shaky start to life in the BSP. ‘Griff’ and ‘Pooley’, in particular, were good servants to County in difficult times, and deserve a warm welcome on their return to SK3 - although we shall, of course, aim to prevent them from taking home afterwards any points or, Heaven forbid, local bragging rights!
This assumes, of course, that County ditch the Jeckyll and...erm, Hyde tendencies which have plagued some of our performances of late! (Sorry, couldn’t resist.)
Enjoy the game, and, looking ahead, hope to see as many of you as possible at Ewen Fields on New Year’s Day.
Animo et Fide.
