Welcome back to EP for the second weekend running - but for what, rather strangely, is County’s first home League fixture on a Saturday for 7 (SEVEN!) weeks.
We almost didn’t get to play this afternoon, either. So, plaudits are due to the Club and to Southport for quickly agreeing to bring the match forward, after both sides’ original opponents for 1st December ruled themselves out by virtue of further progress in the FA Cup. The Sandgrounders will also be the first team that we have played twice in the League this term...and, of course, these dalliances won’t end today, now that our names have come out of the hat together for the second round of the FA Trophy in a fortnight’s time. Let us hope that the weather in SK3 on both occasions is a good deal better than the monsoon that rained over Haig Avenue towards the end of September!
Hopefully, too, today will see our League form get back on track after a couple of disappointing reverses, as well as giving County the psychological advantage ahead of 15th December!
And, with that, I shall hand over to Sandy, who is ready to bestow some season’s greetings...

Pinch, punch, first of the month. Unbelievably, this will be our last home League game before Christmas Day. Maccy and I will hopefully feature again in the programme for the Trophy-tie against today’s opponents, but in the meantime I thought I’d treat you to something a bit festive...
‘Twas the night before Christmas
Just gone half eleven
Not a creature was stirring
Throughout County Heaven
g_t_s is still young
So he’s tucked up in bed
But wait, here comes Downy
(‘though he’s 8 hours ahead)
Then Lennie and Maccy
Sit down by the tree
To discuss football films
That we’d all pay to see
Gazza’s still whingeing
‘bout that new ‘phone of his
And Archie won’t shut up
Since he won my last quiz
Sir Roger regales us
With one of his jokes
Sirius isn’t amused
But it tickles us blokes
Dudley’s trying a limerick
For the one hundredth time
Not sure why he bothers
‘Cos it won’t chuffing rhyme
‘Another Ruined Saturday’
And Benno’s here too
Captain Beefheart turned up
But he’s gone for a...brew
Market Harborough pops in
As does Calliope
Fudgie’s been on the eggnog
And is looking quite ropey
‘Oshorwilliamsrightpeg’
Is putting up holly
County_fan’s wrapping tinsel
‘round Hatter In Bolly
Lastly, I step inside
From the snow and the sleet
But it’s not just us few
There’s hundreds to meet
So from all at CH
I bring festive cheer
Why not make joining
Your resolution next year?
Happy Christmas everyone! And enjoy the game.
