Carlisle United 1 Stockport County 1 ( Carlisle win 5-4 on pens) Exciting…… disappointing, this League 2 Play Off Final was both and more. County`s promotion push was halted but by a very good side in Carlisle United who will be a credit to League 1. Read hedgegrower`s account of today`s match and clock the crowd images from hedgegrower & Andrew Machin…. hedgegrower.blogspot.com/2023/05/carlisle-united1-stockport-county-1.html

Man-in-a-Hat’s trawl through the archives continues with his recollection of the New Year’s trip to Colwyn Bay in 2015. A report that is a mere 2,500 words. How times have changed. Apparently, these are the sorts of trips Man-in-a-Hat misses. Rubber sheets; Llandudno; Conwy; the Palladium; karaoke that blows you off your stool; being match-summariser on Pure FM with JK and trying to secretly mention as many styles of hat as possible on air; meeting a former County player in some random pub and plenty of good pictures of the Blue Army. You can re-experience this classic tale by clicking here:- hedgegrower.blogspot.com/2015/01/mad-as-hatter-colwyn-bay-on-new-years.html

Remember Lowestoft? Man in a Hat Does ! Man-in-a-Hat’s next reminiscence is his final trip of the 2014 / 2015 season, 3 nights in Lowestoft. So, if you want to go back in time to when Stockport had the only Platform 0 in the world, look at probably the largest number of Supporter pictures he managed any trip, find out how the Supporters’ Co-op ended up £50 richer, and muse over jumbo sausages and knicker throwing, why not click here hedgegrower.blogspot.com/2015/03/end-of-season-carnage-lowestoft-by-man.html and revisit the mysterious east.

For Man-in-a-Hat’s penultimate retro-report of the summer, we’re off to Gainsborough, April 2017. Industrial action on the trains, spending time in the library with Stafford, hat swapping with the local Police, encountering multiple fans of Stockport’s real ale scene, and celebrating the Pope of Brinnington’s 65th birthday. What’s not to like? Click here to go back in time:- hedgegrower.blogspot.com/2017/04/a-brush-with-law-and-pope-of.html

Man-in-a-Hat’s final dip into the archives before the Big Kick-Off takes us to South Shields September 2018. Here is what he has to say about one of his favourite ever trips. “I’ve chosen this particular trip as it seemed to have everything and was completely full-on. Travelling first class; the Newcastle Tap; the Tyneside Metro and Ferry; drinking real ale before noon 4 days running; toasties aplenty; getting pictures of Stafford onto the CAMRA What?ub website; blowing up balloons; Matchday hospitality; haggis; and the excellent pubs of the North East.” Revisit the trip by clicking here:- hedgegrower.blogspot.com/2018/09/tasty-very-toastie-indeed-by-man-in-hat.html As for this season, stay-over trips have already been teed-up to Morecambe, Nottingham and Watford for the Play-Off Final (which I hope to cancel of course). No doubt there will be more opportunities thrown up by League Cup, FA Cup and League Trophy , but how can anything possibly match South Shields?
