E-vening all, here are your starters to mull over:
Easy Rider (1969)
Empire Strikes Back, The (1980)
Enemy of the State (1998)
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
Exorcist, The (1973)

i enjoyed 'enemy of the state' as a fast-paced thriller, 'eternal sunshine of the spotless mind' for some of the ideas and how michel gondry displayed them, but it's the empire strikes back for me. i went to see it in 1980 for someone's 10th birthday party and we were all 'vader's luke's dad?!?' afterwards. unlike many, i don't think it's the best in the series, but the battle of hoth is a fantastic visual bit of cinema.

I agree that it's not the best in the series. For me, leaving out 7 (which I'll need to watch again when it arrives tomorrow), I'd go:
4, 6, 5, 3, 1, 2.

However, I'm struggling to decide between Empire and Enemy of the State. I'll come back to you all!

yeah, 4 for me too. not sure between 5 & 6; then i'm really struggling with the sh*t three. we have the dreadful trade federation, the risible jar-jar, the crap alec guiness impersonation, the endless emo whining of anakin, and the dullest doomed love story ever. i'd rather pick my favourite time i got kicked in the b*ll*cks. still, lightsabers and stormclone troopers smash together quite prettily, just a shame about the rest...

Easy Rider , all day long.
I had chosen this before the list went up. Soundtrack to die for (and they did at the end - ooops - spoiler alert)

Almost went with the default of early Woody Allen and Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Sex (But Were Afraid To Ask) but, in the end, I'll choose something a little more modern in Election. Very cynical but well played throughout.

Easy Rider for me as well... even though, when it comes to road movies, I'm ultimately a Thelma and Louise kinda guy ! A hugely influential work, in terms of the way Hollywood looked at making films afterwards, too.

Hated E.T. i lived through that era and was unfortunate enough to endure the dark, sh*tty pirate copy where you had to fill in the f**king blanks yourself as to what was actually going on.
When I finally saw it on TV years later in all its 'glory', I wondered why I complained about the pirate VHS copy in the first place, because I imagined the dark bits to be far better than Spielberg made'em!
Overrated, schmaltz-ridden movie, give me Close Encounters any day of the week over this over-hyped crap.
My choice is:
Equalizer, The
Brilliant movie. It's violent in places, real violent, but if you don't mind that sort of thing then you'll be mad not to give it a watch. If you liked 'Taken', you'll love this. However, as good as that movie is, Robert McCall shows Brian Mills how to do a proper arse kicking!
Denzel Washington was absolutely superb as McCall. He's even agreed to do a sequel, which is something he has never done before in his illustrious career.
Can't wait.

A good couple of films beginning with E for me this week...
Elf - Only saw this for the first time a few years ago and have seen it every Christmas since and makes me laugh so much. Entourage - After laughing my way through this film it made me start watching the actual series that have been on TV over the years. East is East - Must of seen this hundreds of times over the years and still laugh at it like its the first time I ever saw it!!
But.......and this might come as a shock to you all but this weeks winner is not a comedy!!
That film is the magnificent Escape to Victory. Another film that I've seen loads of times over the years from being a kid and the Ossie Ardiles flick over his head and the Pele bicycle kick goal still send that little shiver of excitement up my spine when I see it these days.

I'll go back a bit and add as my choice Clint Eastwood's
Every Which Way But Loose
where the star was Clyde the Orang-u-tan who I was lucky enough to meet in the USA back in 1981

Update:
Easy Rider is leading the way with two votes, and the rest all have one vote each:
Election (is that what a Chinese man gets when he's excited?) Empire Strikes Back, The Escape to Victory Equalizer, The Every Which Way But Loose

Honourable mention to Elf, due to the fact that a Blonde Zooey Deschanel is a delightful Christmas treat but my vote must go to...
...The Expendables...what a film, action packed from minute one to the final minute, cheesy, American sh*te? Of course but hilariously action packed filled with action stars and the cast list only gets more impressive with each passing film!

Not 'Eight Legged Freaks', not 'Employee of the month', not 'Educating Rita', not 'Edward Scissorhands', not 'The English Patient', or the 'Empire strikes Back'. Liked the Star Wars trilogy, and Easy Rider, but they're pipped by the black and white 'Elephant Man'....
