great little interview that. steve massey's enthusiasm is great. never realised that he reckoned the 'direct from a corner' goal was actually his flick. cheers for posting duds.

Whenever I see or hear someone talking about the Paul Simpson 'Jamie Who?' incident and suggesting that it denied us a massive transfer fee further down the line - I disagree.
We had no assets and no real money behind us, so had we signed him and had he been a success with us, any offers coming in for him would have surely been peanuts compared to the money Leicester eventually paid for him - we would have had very little bargaining power and I believe we would have had to accept much less for him.
Fleetwood on the other hand, they did not need the kind of money we would have been offered for him as their owner was/is minted, hence their being able to hold out for a much bigger fee.
Not signing Vardy was a crucial point in our history, but only because his goals could have contributed to us staying in the football league. We wouldn't have made anywhere the amount of money Fleetwood got for him.
All in my opinion, of course.

i think you're probably right. if we'd got some goals out of him, and been able to use a -say- £50k on other recruits/loan wages, we might've given ourselves a better chance that season...but we'd have had to improve quite significantly given how far adrift we finished.
what might have been a possibility knowing the cunning minds* at work at county, was us getting a £50k fee with a sell-on, and enjoying a bit of a windfall later.
*ok - i see a flaw in this argument

that's pretty good given that west brom and leeds both have 46 game seasons. we're in a 46 game season now, but only 42 last season, so probably two fewer games during 2019 to achieve those points. liverpool and city are obviously ridiculous given that they're based on a 38 game season.
