We are blessed with our support. How in hell do the likes of Ashton and Curzon survive? I don't know, but I'm glad that they do, because when clubs like those disappear then we'll know that Football really is f***ed. All power to them, I say.

10 shillings !!!!! I can remember when it was 1 shilling and 3 pence for juniors (7 and 1/2 pence to you youngsters in this new fangled money).

County were, I think, the first Football League club at any level to charge ten bob, a few months before the new money kicked in. And as a mid-table Fourth Division outfit going nowhere, too. Utter madness.
The 70 per cent price-hike, in December 1970, resulted in an attendance at EP against Northampton of 1,846 - less than half the 3,753 who had paid six shillings to watch us host Newport a fortnight earlier. Only one home gate got anywhere near the 3,000 mark for the rest of the season, and that was against Notts County who were running away with the title.
Were you one of the Boycotters, Lennie?!

Brilliant research, Macca. I think I had started the boycott earlier than that because of the crap football on offer and I had discovered girls !!! Couldn't afford both.

Brilliant research, Macca. I think I had started the boycott earlier than that because of the crap football on offer and I had discovered girls !!! Couldn't afford both. In my experience girls and football didn't mix. I remember taking a girlfriend to watch a match against Crewe Alex, when County scored the third, thereby securing the points she commented that she'd never been able to make me smile like that, "I never saw you score for County" was not the answer she was looking for. Curiously the relationship didn't last much longer.

My first girl friend once accused me:- "You love Stockport County more than me !"
I Replied "I love Manchester United more than you, sweetie".
End of relationship.
