Before my time at EP, but I believe we hosted Zambia in the late '70s!
Were any Heaveners at that one?

I too was at that one! Very bizarre game, at the time I had no idea they were a country, as my Dad kept referring to them as being 'Some Russian side'.

Of course I mean I went to the Latvia one, not the Zambia one!
I did know about the Zambia game due to the County history book from 1883-1994!
If I'm not mistaken, a few years back our Development Squad held Finland's U21s to a 1-1 draw in a Training Ground friendly?

Zambia !!!!!!! Not a thought about that.
I saw the Hamburg game in the mid 60's, previous to that the most exotic game I saw was Darlington (away)

I seem to remember a mid season friendly against a Yugoslavian side arranged by the then Chairman Dragan Lukic. I think it was 1975ish. I've still got the programme somewhere I'll have to dig it out to remember the detail

I went to the game against New Mills, I presume they played their first team in the game as they seemed way more experienced than our kids in the first half and took a well deserved lead on about 30 minutes or so.
County came out a different team in the second half and really took the game to New Mills, George West (1 of only 3 players I knew!) had a great game and was man of the match for me, both goalscorers took their goals well and Dane Smith in net had a cracking game as well making a few very good saves to keep County in the game, level and ahead!
All in all a very pleasant night, I wish all the best to New Mills in getting back on their feet after a truly abysmal season last year and I don't think it's too bold of me to say, I can see a good chunk of that Development team making a first team appearance!

Cheers for that, fudgie - it sounds like Alan really is starting to make progress with his squad!
