isn't that three players injured and replaced in the warm up recently? that's a bit mental! That is indeed bizarre.

they just explained it a bit more and said anuruo had a slight hip problem and was only fit for the bench, but felt it a bit more in the warm up so it was decided he should be left out entirely.

balls. they've equalised. doesn't sound like very good defending, but it's the first goal we've conceded in a while...

Shame, because every other result is going our way

yeah, but it's not like one of those promotion challenge seasons where you're constantly checking what the other scores are - it's more about finishing off the season well, and taking a point away at a side in a bit of form and continuing our recent unbeaten run is still pretty encouraging.

My 'on-the-whistle' report for Quays News (with a fuller COWS one to follow once I return to Macc Towers!):
*****************************************************************************************************
The two form-teams in the Vanarama National League North met at The Lamb on the back of three straight victories apiece, and - perhaps rather predictably - matched each other in a hard-fought draw.
The one-all result not only replicated that of the reverse-fixture at Edgeley Park, but also followed the same sequence of scoring - with County, through John Marsden on this occasion, taking a first-half lead, and Tamworth’s Elliott Durrell once again rescuing his side with an equaliser after the break.
Each team handed a debut to a new signing - with Ashley Carter, on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, starting for the hosts, and County’s former Chorley midfielder, Tom Field, taking the place of the suspended Lewis Montrose.
The first half saw no fewer than a dozen corners awarded - although, strangely, early goal-scoring opportunities were at a premium. The Lambs went close after six minutes when Curtis Strong’s shot from the edge of the box was tipped over by Ian Ormson, but the game had reached its half-hour mark before the next chance of note was recorded.
It proved a key moment, though - giving the Hatters the lead. Danny Morton’s long throw from the right was punched out by James Belshaw - but only as far as Marsden, who fired home from an angle inside the far post.
Durrell levelled for the Lambs just after the hour with a low drive from the edge of the box. And Ross Dyer hit the bar moments later, as the hosts looked to seize the initiative.
The Hatters had two goal-bound attempts thwarted in quick succession, when, from a corner, Chris Smalley’s header was cleared off the line and Belshaw parried away a follow-up shot by Richard Brodie.
Tamworth applied some late pressure, forcing three more corners in and around added time - but County held firm to make sure of a deserved point.
Result: Tamworth 1 (Durrell, 61), Stockport County (Marsden, 30).
Teams:
Tamworth: Belshaw (GK), Burns, R Dyer (Mohamed, 76), Deeney, Carter, Preston (L Smith, 77), Durrell, Green (C), Newton, Taylor, Strong.
County: Ormson (GK), Morton, Roberts, Field, O’Hanlon (C), Smalley, Menagh (Joyce, 89), Odejayi, Brodie (Garvin, 66), Marsden (Holsgrove, 90), Ledsham.
Bookings:
Tamworth: Durrell (56).
County: Field (49).
On Target: Tamworth 4, County 8.
Off Target: Tamworth 3, County 5.
Corners: Tamworth 12, County 7.
Offsides: Tamworth 1, County 2.
Attendance: 1,016.

I think it's a statement of intent. If we're serious about getting out of this division next season Jim's going to have to strengthen his squad and this recent run is surely being noticed by ambitious players above and below us. This summer is going to drag like a seals backside, can't wait for next season already

i was thinking more about instilling some belief in the fanbase. we're coming up to season ticket renewal launch fairly soon, and after you've sold your previous set during a drab season with 'nothing less than promotion' and got nowhere near promotion, it will hopefully be a boost to show a period of form that looks like it's the product of a plan, a way of playing, that we can carry forward. we need as many on board as possible to help achieve next season.
i still expect county to be a big enough pull to attract players. you're right though - a surge in form, and what looks like a plan in place will also attract players to a club they think is going somewhere.

Quite right, especially after the "nothing but promotion" chat before the season started!

this recent run is surely being noticed by ambitious players above and below us. Absolutely, mate. Regardless of our position we can still consider ourselves something of a sleeping 'giant' in this division, so hopefully any real signs of a recovery will persuade the better quality players to want to be a part of it.

I went yesterday and we look a completely different side to the Pre-Gannon one...the first 10/15 minutes were all County with a few decent efforts and what looked like a certain trip on Big Kay in the area which the linesman, who was terrible throughout, deemed to be a foul AGAINST Tamworth...either way, County were in the lead after 30 minutes or so when a long Morton through was misjudged by the 'keeper who's toothless punch only went as far as Marsden who scrambled the ball in to make it 1-0 County. As the half wore on Tamworth grew into the game a bit more but County were far from outclassed and still had attacks of their own.
The Second Half started with wave after wave of attacks from Tamworth but County held their ground superbly until the hour mark when a speculative shot from just outside the area seemed to be slightly mishit, unfortunately that seemed to place it even better than you would imagine the initial shot would've been and a slight feeling of sympathy for Ian Ormson, who has played so well since being recalled back into the squad under Jim, as his line of sight was clearly impeded by the numerous players in front of him. After the equalizer both sides went in hunt of a second with both sides coming perilously close, County even having a shot cleared off the line. In the last 10 minutes, you could tell which side had a real chance at the playoffs and which side was destined for mid-table obscurity as Tamworth started desperately searching for a late winner but the County rear-guard held firm as they stopped every Tamworth attack with relative ease.
Despite losing 2 points, it still feels like a point gained against a promotion chasing side in their own ground. I know I've been one of Big Kay's biggest fans since he joined the club but again today he looked absolutely superb, he holds up the ball very well and flicks it on as well as anyone I've seen since our Wembley season! I was gutted for Anorou who has been very good since signing as well but I can't help but feel Kay has really deserved the start in recent weeks and took his chance with both hands when offered it!

Just fyi Evans and Ellison were at Tamworth. We could do with signing Durrell; he's wasted at Tamworth. As for the warm up, this seems to be what i would call a proper warm up. A good result but sad to lose the lead. Initially this was caused by Ledshams header out for a throw. O'Hanlon and not sure which other player probably Ledsham didnt man mark as they took the quick throw in before the cross into the box. Really sloppy after a match where we had matched Tamworth player for player. Big Kay is a powerful presence and puts the opponents defenders under the cosh. Smalley was impressive and Field had a good debut. Still a decent result considering most of the second half was played into really bright sunshine. All in all, the futures bright. Now lets see a proper turn outs this Tuesday and next Saturday; not an excuse for one like last Saturday. Jim and the players deserve a decent crowd.
