I don't care where Hednesford are in the league, we'd have beaten anyone playing like that!
Not one player had a bad game last night, from minute one we attacked them and again got our reward just 7 minutes into the game as Obi Anoruo got the slightest of contact with his head on a pin point ball from Gareth Roberts to nod the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
From 1-0 it was all one way traffic, Ormson was forced into a couple of very routine stops a couple of times in the half but was never really troubled and between our constant pressure and Hednesford's disgusting lack of discipline we looked like the only team with a chance of scoring a 2nd goal, especially on around 35-40 minutes when County had 4 glorious chances in the space of about 15 seconds as their goalie pulled off some unbelievable point blank saves from Anoruo and Ledsham (I think) to keep the score 1-0. The 2nd goal finally came thanks to a belting strike on the stroke of half time from Richard Brodie, it looked like it may have taken a slight deflection but I can't say for sure as I've not watched it back yet but it hit the crossbar with such force and bounced down into the net that the keeper had absolutely no chance of stopping it. County could've perhaps considered themselves unlucky to only be 2-0 up after 45 minutes!
In the second half, Hednesford came into it a little bit more in the second half without really troubling County until the hour mark when one of their players finally did beat Ormson only to be thwarted on the line by Gareth Roberts (I think) despite some weak shouts of handball from their players, the officials correctly waved it away and played on. With about 75 minutes played Big Kay came on and immediately got involved cutting out a couple of dangerous looking balls from their midfield and then on 80 odd minutes popping up with a far post header of his own to finally notch his first goal of 2016 and his first goal at Edgeley Park.
You could tell their was genuine delight for Big Kay when he scored as well from players, staff and fans...a player who had unfairly (I think) been singled out for criticism by the small sections of the crowd, I think in the last 2 months or so he has contributed so much from the bench and on rare starts so I was utterly delighted for him to get a well deserved goal!
Again no one played badly, my MOTM would've been Montrose or maybe Ledsham personally....Ormson looks a new man under Jim and is deservedly getting the plaudits from the fans as well...many of whom are being force fed a huge slice of humble pie! Mennah didn't do anything wrong yesterday and was awarded MOTM, whilst I don't think he did nearly enough for MOTM he was very solid, especially as a last minute addition to the starting XI.
Overall a hugely satisfying performance and a genuine feeling of optimism that Jim has them playing like a team now and not a group of XI individuals which is how it felt in the last days of Neil Young's reign sadly.
Also cheers Jim and Co. for making my prediction come true!
