Just arrived home from watching Macc Junior play at Chinley. There was heavy rain, and even some sleet, falling there early in the morning - but the game went ahead, and the boys proceeded to play some good football.
But, then, the Chinley Community Centre does have a part-time groundsman...

What a waste. I am so gutted that the game is off today. I really felt that our luck was turning but this has just given me a reality check. I was so up for today's game and haven't felt this way for a long time. With the latest results, perhaps there would have been a good turnout by other fans. The players and Coaching staff seem to be buzzing with the way they have been playing over the last few weeks - again this is such a waste!!! McKnight - getting rid of our Groundsman has not been an investment for this club. The wrong decision made and will cost us dearly.

was the weather that bad in stocky then? i was (shamefully) woken within the last hour by sunshine streaming in...
as we noted after the workington game, it was really noticeable how the state of the pitch had suddenly taken a nose dive. some work had clearly been done on it, cos you could see the lines where rollers or whatever had been...but it looked pretty poor. are we going back to a bog like we had sharing with sale? as a -reasonably- footballing side is this another area where off pitch decision making adversely affects the part of the business that can actually bring some more money in if successful?

It is fine here now, exile, but did rain very heavily in the night. Well, in Macc it did, so I assume conditions were pretty much the same twelve miles up the road.
I do feel that a well-tended pitch (which it had been following Sale's departure and prior to our groundsman's) could have withstood a downpour and, given a dry morning, been playable - but, as you imply, its starting-point overnight will not have been good.
Very frustrating.

But, hey, it's not all doom and gloom... Sandy and I have decided to go ahead and post the article that we had penned for today's County Life, especially for those wondering what to do with their match-free afternoon. Find it now under 'First Team Discussions'. Aren't we good to you?!

I was looking forwards to the match today , with my son . He is back to Uni and this was the last match before he goes back South.
Have never said this before but McKnight really needs to go ASAP.
Today's debacle is the last straw. Cost cut cost cut , what about stopping the cost cutting and bringing funds into the business by generating new revenue streams.

Oh dear. Where to begin? Firstly big disappointment like everyone else that we didn't play today. With the momentum we are building up (and the luck we finally seem to be getting on the pitch), 3 points seemed a good bet. My worry is all these games in hand means lots of midweek games - and we do seem to struggle with our fitness and small squad when we have games close together. The other thing today proved (again) was how bad a decision it was to get rid of the groundsman. As predicted by most of us on CH, it is costing us dearly. So far McFarce had saved one months of Liam's salary. Well, the costs are already mounting, probably beyond that amount. Muppet. He's also achieved a new record of being the first CEO to be of less strategic importance to a football club than the guy who looks after the pitch. Muppet. Finally, this thread shows again why McFarce has to go. Would the game have gone ahead with Liam? Don't know, but it doesn't matter - it's McFarce's fault. And this is the problem. Everything that goes wrong is blamed on him, whether it is his fault or not. Anything that goes right will always be inspite of him and not because of him. And whatever staff are left at County aren't daft - they know this too. Any other business where the entire workforce has lost confidence in the leader (and, in fact, see him as a bad joke) would have booted the CEO ages ago. If, as a leader, the people who work for you have lost all respect for you, then you are stuffed. And us fans are his 'customers' and (in effect) shareholders and we have lost all trust and respect, so he is stuffed again. And this never going to change. He's like a bit of chewing gum that is stuck to your shoe - you've no idea how it got there, you want to get rid, but it just won't go. Every day you curse your carelessness at allowing this trash to ruin a perfectly decent (if slightly battered) pair of shoes. Oh yes, and you want to punch the person who spat it out on the floor in the first place. Muppet. Our next hymn is Number 254 'The day thou gavest Lord is ended'.
