Afternoon everyone, and welcome to EP. Hopefully, our opponents today won’t be ‘woking’ all over us! (Well, I liked it.)
Today, I’ll be focusing on ‘that’ Tuesday night game, and Maccy will be telling you about his trip to Newport (he’s part-Welsh, you know). Presumably, he was keen to get as far away from Macclesfield as possible...
Well, what can I say? I guess the away fans and neutrals will have enjoyed a ‘7-goal thriller’, as it’s repeatedly referred to in the press, but for County fans it was a difficult one to stomach - particularly as we played some good football. Danny Whitehead’s strike would have been a worthy winner, but we kept giving Macclesfield too much room and ultimately paid the price. Still, one highlight for us Heaveners was seeing our sponsored player, Danny O’Donnell, get on the score sheet - not to mention hearing our forum consequently benefit from a mention over the tannoy! - for the first time this season (and, hopefully, not the last).
On County Heaven we’ve recently been re-visiting a debate on who our best ever non-UK player was (Gleeson proving popular), and my quiz reached its exciting climax (although at the time of going to press I’ve no idea who the winner is!...Well we know now, but modesty forbids, and all that - HiM).

The brief pilgrimage-visit to ‘The Land of My Fathers’ last Saturday was made very much more in hope than in expectation. Imagine, then, my delight (and that of the other 200 Blue and White Army attendees) at seeing our team turn in a performance against Newport’s early pace-setters that was easily worthy of a point and, on another day, might quite feasibly have yielded all three.
Alex Meaney made his debut in South Wales, and his impressive cameo - which included rattling the hosts’ crossbar - was a hint of great promise. A very warm welcome from County Heaven to Alex, and best wishes for a successful career in SK3.
Returning to today’s game, and ‘the Cards’ from Woking, after an unremarkable initial start to life back in the BSP, will surely now be buzzing after hitting Nuneaton for six a week ago. We shall certainly need to be on our guard against a side so potent on the counter-attack...and yet - with acknowledgments (and apologies) to Sir Brucie - it could still be a big night if we play the Cards right!
I’m here all week...
Enjoy the game.
