Good evening everyone and welcome to Edgeley Park for our first 'Friday Night is County Night' of the season!
Unfortunately you're stuck with just me for tonight's programme as Maccy will still be abroad when the deadline for this article falls due.
After getting the best possible start to the season by picking up (arguably quite fortunately) three points against a very 'physical' Alfreton side, we then avenged another heavy defeat from last season by taking all three points from Grimsby courtesy of a Danny Whitehead stoppage-time winner. I imagine those who travelled to the game enjoyed it a great deal more than those who went last season! Sadly, we couldn't keep up our unbeaten start as we then lost to Tamworth last weekend but I think the majority of us are more than happy with 6 points from the opening 3 fixtures.
Gateshead had a tough start to their campaign opening with Luton away, and were unlucky not to come away with three points but squandered a two-goal lead and had to settle for a draw. They then comfortably beat Mansfield at home followed by another draw against Forest Green. Last season they looked for a long time like they would make the play-offs and it seems as though they may well be up there again this time around so they will no doubt prove to be tough opponents tonight.
The start of the season has seen increased activity on County Heaven with new members joining (clearly as a result of our article for the Alfreton programme!), my latest quiz causing people to tear their hair out, the prediction league underway and a new limerick every few days to have a go at. Now that the Premier League season has also started, the Fantasy Football competition is back up and running as well but, as I tell everyone at the start of each season, it's a marathon not a sprint (this has absolutely nothing to do with my poor start yet again).
Don't worry though, it's not all football. If you've ever wondered where you can get the best curry in Stockport, what Fudgie's first date was like, whether a Jaffa Cake is a cake or a biscuit (spoiler: it's a cake, obviously) or even if you just wanted to pick up a new joke for the pub - sign up and take part!
Animo et Fide.
