We were so lucky in the late 70s/early 80s to have him and Shilts scrapping for the England number one Jersey, it's just a shame that most of the teams in front of them during that period weren't of their incredible standard, otherwise we may well have won something.
Also, when you look at the other English goalkeepers of their era that he helped keep out of the national side, you realise just how bloody good he was.
I've never really had any ambition of being a goalkeeper when I was playing myself, but when I was a kid, I actually had my mum buy me a pair of goalkeeper gloves, just so I could emulate Ray and Shilts out on the local parks with my mates.
Being a goalie to me back then was the position you got put in when you were no good with your feet (the ignorance of youth!), but he made me realise that was just not true at all - that's how much of an inspiration Ray Clemence was.
RIP, Clem.

RIP a great GK and the riddle between him and Shoots for the England no. 1 position was epic. Will be missed.

It would have been great to have gone to watch Dundonald Bluebell play equally splendidly named Easthouses Lily in the Scottish Cup qualifying round this afternoon.

They will actually be playing each other in that very fixture next Saturday!
Unfortunately, with Forfar propping up the rest of the League, it looks a tad too much like a home banker to merit inclusion in the Predictions competition...
