Xcellent.
Well, on the basis it is probably clear by now that I can't personally vouch for any band or artist beginning with X, there being none in my collection, it seems a bit daft for me to come up with a shortlist this week. I'm not suggesting some of the artists mentioned elsewhere that begin with X are not worthy of being on the soundtrack, far from it, but I can't very well come up with suggestions I don't know anything about and cannot name a single song by!
So, with that in mind, you have free reign to suggest whoever you like this week!
Get voting.

Three main contenders for me this week: XTC, who, having emerged on the the crest of new wave, have spent their time ever since being devilishly difficult to categorise. My favourite stuff of theirs is the more spiky, early output to be found on White Music, Go 2 and, in particular, Drums and Wires - during the release of which I was lucky enough to see them live. They quit touring altogether in the early '80s, due to Andy Partridge's chronic stage fright, and concentrated on making more thoughtful music that was great when it ventured into psychedelia, but not quite so when it bordered on whimsy. X-Ray Spex pre-dated the Riot Grrrl movement by fifteen years or so, and, by combining high-energy punk with an anti-consumerist lyrical bent, brought something a little different to the table - where, at the time, mindless anarchy and gobbing had been the order of the day. Poly Styrene (RIP), wearing a brace on her teeth and a riot of plastic colours elsewhere, was a glorious front-woman and an inspiration. Whilst I would be happy to see either of those two bands win, my vote goes to... Xmal Deutschland, who were the exception to disprove the rule that everything emerging from the early-'80s Neue Deutsche Welle (literally, German new wave) scene was a crock of Scheiss. They were an all-female band; they sang in German... and STILL sounded good; they were edgy and intense; and, in concert, the noise they made - think witches howling as they burned at the stake, and you're getting there - caused ears to bleed. Their lifespan as a group was short, but, then, those of the most exciting combos often are. Check out Qual and Incubus Succubus, the stand-out tracks on their debut album - which, itself, is called Fetisch. You won't even need to visit a 'special' shop to get your hands on it...

Yes, Making Plans For Nigel.
If it's about Mr Farage, could it involve a one way ticket to the Planet Zarg?

Good combo, binbag. I should have given them an honourable mention myself.
Although, with all the support for XTC, I fear that they will have to XX their chances goodbye...
